Led Zep reunion in 2008

Postby jeffdaweasel on 09 Aug 2007 20:20
Well, Weasel, the rumors were pretty persistent, according to several Midwestern rock radio stations, and, as the Police tour showed, the Impossible can Become Possible.
Oh, the rumors are everywhere, I agree.

I took the liberty of talking to a couple of my friends at the major touring companies about this. They were also aware of the rumors, but say that no discussions of coordinating a tour have come their way yet. Some of these are the same that did the last Plant/Page tours, so they'd probably know.

Again, I totally agree: nothing is impossible. :)

Hey Weasel,
I'd be happy to see another Page&Plant tour as well! The one with the Indian Singer and orchestra I have on DVD was to die for...

Besides, I am 100% sure I saw Jimmy sitting with JPJ at the latest Grammies. I jumped 2 meters in the air, and wondered sadly that all the ppl being there for the rap shit weren't aware of who those gentlemen were...

We are not asking for much, are we? 8)

Having gotten to see JPJ not only play the mandolin with Robyn Hitchcock this year (from the 2nd row of a 500-person hall...sometimes you just get lucky) but also having heard him play "Dazed and Confused" with ?uestlove + Ben Harper at Bonnaroo?

I'd buy plane tix to see a show with three of the four boys. You bet.

The only way for LZ to reform is for two more drug overdoses to take place.

If SC wasn't around for a Police Reunion, would any of us consider it to be the Police if someone else filled in for him?

JB was as important to the LZ sound as SC is to the Police sound.

IMO.

Same could be said of Keith but the Who kept on filling stadia and arenas and while no one would say it was the same [nothing achieves escape velocity like A Quick One While He's Away from R&R Circus and it just never will without im] but they still continued attracting fans...I saw them in Oakland when they were doing the entirety of Tommy from beginning to end and even with Pete acoustic (was that time when his hearing was really touch and go) it was freaking unbelievable, it really was...

You are right. But if Jordan Copeland, for instance, was a very well respected drummer who knew all of his father's fills, I would consider that something close to my heart anyway.

I guess I'm of the "I'll show up to see good musicianship" school. I guess I just can't believe a show featuring Page, Plant and Jones would suck.

Would it be like seeing them in 1972? No, but I'm not ever going to get that chance, so what's the point of even thinking about it?

Just some $.02...

(I had a great time at New Cars featuring Todd Rundgren a few weeks back...though there was a big Ben-Orr-shaped hole up there, for sure.)
I bet Page and Plant called each other and said "You know, I think we are really idiots, we are one of the biggest band ever existed, could do much more money than the Police and look we are sitting on our arses doing our sporadic Moroccan and Indian collaborations!".
Is not the same like The Police, because without the original Bonham, is not Led Zeppelin, if you understand what I mean...

Precisely. Is it Led Zeppelin? No. But it's three folks playing together whom I'd love to hear playing together. (I'd jump at a chance to hear Stewart and Andy play together as well.)

[ETA: In fact, the more I think about it, the more I can't help but think watching Stewart and Andy playing together in some non-Police or other-than-Police capacity would be pretty fucking awesome. Just an fyi to the powers-that-be for future reference.]

I'd just hope that -- unlike the Doors-ish -- Page, Plant, and Jones wouldn't pretend to be the original article of their original selves -- cuz that just makes it all kinds of disturbing and creepy.
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

I have to confess that from Led Zeppelin, I always rather drummer John Bonham, and without him, a new reunion af the survivers on the band, is just that...

Back in the 90's there was the ultimate tribute band...Dread Zeppelin (not sure if they are still around). Just imagine your favourite Zep songs played to a reggae sound/arrangement. Bar none the most fun I've had at a live show (next to our boys of course). If flattery is the ultimate compliment then these guys are it. There's also Michael White & The Whites; see them if you can. I'm no fan of rip off bands but I would highly recommend seeing either of these acts if they're in your town. White's band is complete with those see-through wickedly cool Ludwig drums...Bonham would approve :D

I remember those guys!!! Yeah, they were a lot of fun.

As for Led Zep...hmmm...I'm sheepish to admit I've never really been a fan, personally (I liked Dread Zep better :D). I don't have a problem with them going out without Bonzo being there, but that's just one of those person-to-person things that's hard to quantify. I mean, I love the Who - they're in my top five bands and Moonie is my second-favorite drummer ever (behind Stew of course) - but I've had no problem seeing them several times without him (maybe because, of course, there'd be no way for him to _be_ there?) And Zack Starkey actually does a commendable job these days playing Moonie's parts with a worthy abandon.

It's harder for me with bands where the missing members are still alive, _and_ they're calling themselves the same act. I guess that's why the idea of The Police without Sting, Stewart, or Andy would just not work for me at all. I'd have no problem seeing Stewart & Andy performing together with other musicians, but not under the name The Police (and ditto any other combination of the three). Pink Floyd, I saw them several times without Roger because, mostly, I'd go listen to Dave Gilmour on guitar no matter what he's doing, but Roger's presence was absolutely missing from the experience every time--none of the PF shows I saw in '87 or '94 could hold a candle to their set at Live8, for instance, when all 4 of them were together.

(For me, a Floyd reuinion tour is the ONLY thing that could match my fervor for the current Police reuinion.)

Aaaaaggghhhh......
Sockii, I respect your taste and your passion. It is OK, many people don't like LZ, some like only their acoustic side, etc.
To me, even SEEING the word Pink Floyd makes me want to look for the vomit icon.
I liked Syd Barrett. My love of PF stops there in 1967 with See Emily Play (which I prefer in the Bowie version anyway). But I am surprised when you say a PF reunion. They are around, tour make records and Roger Waters has amply demonstrated that he and the Great Pig in The Sky suck at the latest Grammys. He does not hold the name. That is the issue.
So pardon my Italian, but a LZ reunion? It would be much bigger than the Police in terms of public attendance and resonance in the music world.
Bonzo Bonham was not among my favorite drummers until Physical Graffiti. Then I understood his greatness. But I heard Jason, and I trust he would not suck as Kenny Jones did with the Who.
