My sophomore year high school picture

Postby jeffdaweasel on 27 Jun 2007 18:45

I wish I could find it somewhere. I'm sure I can dig up an old yearbook, perhaps within the bowels of one of my closets or the garage.

But on June 9, 1983, I saw The Police along with 74,999 other people at a venue that, to the best of my knowledge, had never been used for a big pop/rock concert, and may never have been used since. It was Hollywood Park, a horse racing track.

Anyway, unlike the 2007 tour, I actually bought a memento, and it was a gray sleeveless t-shirt with the faces of the three boys on the front, and the tri-colored Synchronicity stripes on the back. Damn, I wish I still had that shirt (not that I wear sleeveless T's too often, or at all, these days).

So, that fall, it was time to go back to school. As usual in Southern California, September is our most blistering hot month (more so than June, July or August, most years), and also as usual, I completely forgot it was picture day at school. So, I showed up not in a preppy polo shirt or a formal button-down affair, but in my sleeveless Police T.

I can't say my parents were thrilled about the casual nature of the resulting photo, but somewhere around here, I do have actual evidence of my 25-year+ Police fandom obsession. If I can find it, I'll scan it and post it. :)

Young Police fanaticism

Postby Jennie on 27 Jun 2007 19:05

When I was back East in March, I found my calendar from 1985 with "THE POLICE!" written on Feb. 5 (my first concert eva!). I found my puffy Synchronicity stickers and the evil looking Sting sticker from "Brimstone and Treacle". I also found my program from the show and my Synchronicity folders that I used in school. Also some 45s - "Can't Stand Losing You" (suicide pic on blue vinyl no less) and "Don't Stand So Close To Me"? And a couple of books I had on the Police. It's been a trip seeing some of these pictures resurrected and wondering where in the heck I've seen them before. Such a trip down memory lane!!!

What I COULDN'T find (and freaked me out, although it's since been recovered) were my Klark Kent (in the shape of a K) album and my Andy Summers first solo album. Sigh...

nice story daweas... hey, there's always those photos in every grade where the kids forget to dress! i am a girl, so i have none of those stories. i always looked good for picture day. sad, dorky, but true.

i never got to go see the police (i was 12 in 1983), so i have no concert mementos. what i did have was one of those painters caps with the flaps down the back with the police on the front... niiiiice. what a fashion statement those things were!

I had the Sting action figure from Dune for years! In the last move after my daughter was born, he disappeared...I think my Hair Band Loving Ex-Husband threw it in the trash! I should have known, the first time he talked about Poison that it was all a huge mistake!!!

That would be ENTIRELY awesome. I never knew that Feyd-Rautha Stingkonnen had an action figure, or I would definitely have that in a collection. :)

On the original topic, I cannot for the life of me find the yearbook photo in question. The only '80s photo of me that apparently exists is the one linked below, from 1985. Note the gauzy white pants, the patterned shirt, and (most importantly) the always-stylish beret. I think the barely-visible teenage moustache really adds to my overall look.  :D

Heh, that's a stylish shot for sure!

Here's a pic of me from late 1983, with the shirt I got at Oakland in September '83. Sorry you can't see much of my face, I like it that way!

Happy, happy times...

Ha! Cool shot, Krok. My shirt (the one I can't find the yearbook pic of) was the same one, but in a light gray background.

I had that shirt too! And I fondly remember my first Disc camera as well. Ahhhhh, 80's technology!

Great shirt, krok!

And great look all-around, Jeff. I'm pretty sure I owned your friend's purple belt.
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

I too had a disc camera.

However, I never had an official Police shirt, I don''t think. I don't remember having any bands' shirts, because I wasn't allowed to go to concerts until high school.

However, for the Police I "made my own" shirt.

It was a pink Garfield Tshirt someone gave me that said I hate Mondays, which was obviously SO uncool. So I cut off the sleeves and the neck and wrote part of the lyrics to "Any Other Day" on the back in an attempt to make it cooler.

Looking back, I'm sure I failed miserably, but I loved that shirt once it had Stewart's lyrics on it.

I think my mom took it and threw it away, as it mysteriously disappeared from the laundry one day.

That photo's a riot, weasel. I'll have to post my senior photo one of these days. I'm wearing a black and white checkerboard button down shirt, with bangs Aqua-Netted into the atmosphere and a big black stripe dyed in my hair.

It looks terrible! But I remember feeling really cool the day it was taken. Time has a way of gaining its revenge on us all, dunnit?

Here's a really cool photo of me in my high school year book being geeky and working in the chemistry lab and wearing one of those goofy aprons, though I wished they'd taken it while I had my googles on: http://s163.photobucket.com/albums/t298 ... 0_0122.jpg

I think this was in the fall of 1986.

I was there also....but I still have the shirt! Unfortunately it is now a little snug. But I have added three new shirts to the collection!
