Tribute to the Hi Hat

What really got me hooked on STEWART? His hi hat. ELTSDIM, particularly. God I love it. I have Red Rain on my iPod just so I can listen to the first 10 seconds of it with SC's tasty hi hat work once and a while for a quick fix.

You've neglected Papa Jo Jones (Count Basie), who pretty much invented all those hi-hat tricks, not to mention Chick Webb, for whom the hi-hat was invented.

I've always considered Stewart to be the "Papa Jo of Rock", not only because of his prowess on the hats, but also because of his impeccable feel.

Little known EQ fact. I tell everyone that the Police was the first concert I ever went to, but technically, the first concert I ever went to was the Count Basie Orchestra shortly before his unfortunate death.

This is a most timely thread.
Yesterday, I bought the first piece of real drum hardware I've ever really owned. (My Rolands don't count.) Oh yeah, I do own a real kick pedal (Pearl) and some sticks, though. And a Roc'n'Soc. That's it though.

I wanted my first purchase, the beginning of my own real set, to be hi-hats, on account of Stewart.
(However, I'm still waiting for Stewart's Signature Hats. Do these exist?)
For now, I use loaners for Jam Class.

But when I can get those hats, now they'll have something to sit on.

I bought this stupidly expensive Hi Hat Stand because it will allow me to position the hats in the middle.
(I'm cheating. No crossing over sticks for me!)

I wanted the hi hats in the middle ever since I read this:

So I experimented with having the Hi Hat in the 12 O'Clock position on my rolands and LOVED it.
After a few weeks of not being able to reproduce that muscle memory in Jam Class, I was sold and found this:

I almost bought that deal. It looks well made and cool, but I thought the DW Universal Linkage design was better. And I figured, well, I hope I'll every only buy one Hi Hat stand, so getting one that has this ability was worth it.

I am very excited to try this thing this week.

I'm also still waiting. Probably forever, too.
I believe only prototypes exist. The ones with the Rhythmatist logo on SC'c Tourzilla kit. Paiste was going to produce them, but for some reason didn't and pulled out. They should have been released during Tourzilla. I was hoping to get those with the sig kit, but got one of the closest matches; 12" Twentys.
