Where is the TAMA Stewart Copeland Signature Kit?

Where is the TAMA Stewart Copeland Signature Kit?

Postby plutonic on 19 Aug 2007 05:52

Eyohh,
Forget the frigging snare drum! Where's the signature kit?

If such a product existed, I would almost certainly be compelled to buy it. Cymbals, octabans, the works. A virtual facsimile of Stew's kit that I could alternatively admire and assault. Right in my very own basement. I can see myself assembling and aiming the tasteful, yet very "indie-rock," recessed lighting now.

That way, just in case Stew's ever in the neighborhood someday, and feels like busting some of the baddest live hi-hat tricks since our dear Mr. Roach departed, I'll have the requisite tools handy. Have to warn you though, Stew. My place has a firm bring-your-own-gong policy.

Sorry, I have to draw the line somewhere. I'd get the kit, but I can't afford the percussion rig just now. (Besides, I'm not really sure how I could get the percussion hydraulics set up in my basement. Details, details.) Of course, the longer the Police tour, the slower I will be able to accumulate these toys.... Hmmm... What a dilemma

In truth, It is utterly ridiculous for me to even entertain this.
This is all just a flight of fantasy. I don't in reality have a basement, let alone four walls within which I could drum without having a neighbor alert the authorities.

In the meantime, when's Guitar Center going to start stocking them so I can go in and drool?

Dreaming of this kit is definitely making me think about investing in a real estate. I need somewhere to put the kit!

Maybe if I act fast, I can get one of those "special" mortgages, the terms of which have been quite the talk of the town lately.

$5,000 Cash back at signing? Excellent!
Can we make the closing at 10am?
Guitar Center opens at 11.

That's it.

I've gone totally HOMOwner for Stew.

What a disgrace.

Look at that, Stewart. Some of the baddest live hi-hat tricks for a whole TWO DAYS. Two days, in fact, during which you probably haven't even busted out any of those live hi-hat tricks. You are just THAT good.

Man-crush and mortgage-crush aside, The CHA Master certainly has a point. People do drool over themselves when that shiny, sonorous beauty comes to mind . . .
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

Eyohh,
It's not just the last two days. But I can't even think about a hi hat without thinking of two drummers:

1) Max Roach
2) Stewart Copeland

And for today, the honorary third drummer:
3) Phil Rudd

I am at a loss for words to describe my regret in never seeing Mr. Roach play his hi hat symphonies, but I am making up for that in the Stewart department.

I actually can't believe Stewball didn't wrip off one of his flipping quick wrist twists for y'all Thursday. That would have been my exact question, if not rendered mute by his actual presence:

"Mr. Copeland, will you rip one of those awesome hi hat fills for me, please?"

Did anyone ask Stewball to play?

And I'm really not hearing that it was against GC policy. Any idiot who wants to can come in to Guitar Center and bang away on anything they want, provided someone on the sales staff is present to protect the store's investment.

Stewball couldn't play his own kit? I think not.

Either no one asked him to, or his stated preference, or his publicist's, was that Stewball not hit the kit.

If it was the former, shame on us!!! A lesson for next time.

Can't tell you how much I want a slick pic of Stewball's quick witted wrists doing twists, his left one packed in a yellow and black little bracelet.

For those of you still reading, Phil Rudd is the original drummer from AC/DC. A drummer who gets the nod for simply being Phil. What' better than a drummer named Phil? Drum Phil. Love it. Mr. Rudd never plays fills. I won't say ever, but they are rare. Having never seen them live,I don't know, maybe it's Mutt Lange's influence, but in my experience, Phil sticks to rocking. Rocking is his business, and business is good. For some time now they tour with my gargantuan doppleganger (maxi me?).
What's his name?

Once again, here's To Stewball, who know's that hi hats aren't only for choking!

YAY!

Yeah, I'm a fool for Stewart's wrist pyrotechnics as well. Although I'm convinced he's just showing off, some of the time. ;)

Hell, I'd consider buying a signature kit, and I can't drum at all...

Did get to see Max Roach one time back in 1991. I remember the show well, although I probably couldn't quote you an exact setlist.

How about if
1) Stew' off duty until the tour resumes
2) The acoustics at the GC sucked
3) There was no time for a drumming session what with the number of fans to meet and greet AND an interview for good measure?

Eyohh,

#1 is acceptable. Stew only plays when he feels like it. End of discussion. 'Dey ain't chargin' admission, dig?

# 2 respectfully disregarded. I mean, I'm sorry, the acoustics? You're telling some dude that drove from New Mexico the snare's not worth one snap 'cause the room is dead? Sorry, no, that sounds more like Stingo. Not Stew.

#3 I think you're on the right track though. The problem is logistics and time. GC didn't want an army of people in there five finger discounting their fifty cent peg winders and five dollar drumsticks.

There were, what, 250 people there?

They let them in in groups of 20?

Ok, that's too much. If he played for every group of 20, that's 13 performances, assuming they let in no more than 20 at one time. The lucky last 10 people would get to see a half show, or more likely, get distributed with the last two or three groups. Let's call it 12 performances.

Too much. 5 min x 12 = An hour of playing. That's asking a lot.

But How about 5 "shows", each maybe 3-5 minutes. Let in first group 25, they sign, then sit down in one of the 25 chairs. Next group lines up, as they are letting the line in, Stew sits behind kit. 50 people in the door?

Ton! Hede begede!
Stew plays a 3-5 min "concert."

Length of concert varies depending on how many Signature Snare drums are sold. The snares sold that day are tuned in advance by Jeff Seitz, and Stew gives them a whack during the "show".

He plays his various signature licks, and signs the snare, at the kit, between riffs. Stew signs, Jeff Seitz grabs snare and hands off to lucky new owner while Jeff's assistant (could be a GC guy) places the next snare in front of Mr. Copeland.

I think you'd sell a lotta snare drums Mr. Copeland.

And it would be cool as sh!t. Again, I live in a fantasy world. Hopefully these posts can become known like Copelandia's own little version of Penthouse's Forum. Not real, but shall we say, inspirational. And you never know. Sometimes all the boss may need is the knowhow to build a better mousetrap.

Meow.

Anyway, after the show, Stew waves to the first 25, they wander out lugging their snare drums, as the next 25 files forward to greet the master and follow suit.

Room emptying, Stewart waves, goes and takes 5 mins to himself.

Next show.

Bada-bing, bada-boom, snap, crash, boom-boom-boom!
The whole shindig is over in 75 to 90 minutes.

How long did the thing last the other night?
Two hours?
No problem.

CHA!

Great post, Pluto! Reason of my supposition: from the very beginning of this tour, Disaster Gig Stew has kinda sounded like more preoccupied with the performance level than Mr. Sumner-o or Idaho Andee...
But it's really down to logistics and to the fact that, let's say it, this was a PR event. He shows up on time, dutifully signs his autographs, takes his Mentos pictures with the Anthology, gives an interview and back home in time for a late dinner

Oh NO you DIDN'T!!!!

Digs at the foibles of the Ace Face are OK, in by book, however, slandering mister Summers is serious walking-the-plank territory. It's in my own personal copy of The Commandments, 11-20:

Thou shalt not diss Andy.

I don't think Andy ever cared less than anybody on stage. But you try playing the songs in new keys every night and see how you do. At 65.

I'm not sure where you're going with this line o' thought, though. It seems beside the point.

AUUUUGHHG! I'm such a dumb ass. I had Copeland hold my snare but my brain was to pudding-fied to think of asking him to give it a quick whack before signing it! I only had 4 pairs of Vater sticks on me at the time! AUUUUGGGGH!
There is no bigger gong.

I do remember seeing a reddish-wood lacquer finish Tama Starclassic kit at the Hollywood Guitar Center a few weeks ago, set up exactly like Stewart's kit, Octobans and all, with "Do not touch/Do not play" signs and a price tag equivalent to a new compact to mid-size car... They also had a "Limited Edition" Neil Peart DW kit set up a few months ago in the same spot with what I recall was a $30,000.00 price tag...
