A sighting of someone, somewhere

A sighting of someone, somewhere

Postby jeffdaweasel on 16 Aug 2007 00:03

I just got a hilarious call from a friend of mine.

My friend was inside... a place, perhaps a store, a well-known music store, just this morning. My friend isn't really a Police fan, but he saw this other person next to him and the person looked very familiar.

He was a rather small-statured man, grayish-blondish hair, broad Lancashire accent, and he was looking at some high-end vintage guitars today in this store. In Hollywood. So, my friend had no idea who this person was, but the guy looked very familiar, and my friend decided he must have known him from working with him somewhere in the past.

So, he walked up to the person and said, "Excuse me, I can't place your name, but I think we might have worked together in the past."

And the person looked at my friend and quite politely said, "No, I don't think so."

So my friend, having now heard the accent, realized it wasn't the person who he thought it might be, and apologized. To make the conversation less awkward, he asked what the other guy was looking for in the vintage guitar area of that store.

The person replied he was checking out some guitars. He mentioned he was in the middle of a tour and hadn't had a chance to play other guitars in a little while...

Hmmm. :)

Was he looking to replace a Sunburst Les Paul that he had given to Eric Clapton?
Did your friend get a look at the guy's face or was it hidden by a large cap with wings?

Gosh I wish we had sightings like that where I live! By the way, is Andy's winged hat an Asterix hat? Asterix is a French cartoon character that wears a blue hat with wings, just like Andy's. Here's a picture:

I searched the forum and it seems that nobody has thought of this yet...

Thanks OmegaMachine,

That should narrow my search down a little.

HA! I did similar many years ago. Had a pleasant conversation on the street with a pretty and familiar-looking brunette thinking she was a classmate. It was Sherilyn Fenn. Oops.
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

I know I always seem oblivious when famous people are around. One night a few years ago in downtown DC I had dinner with some friends high school friends of mine visiting from out of town and we walked by a restaurant when a heavyset older guy and a younger ad came rushing out and nearly knocked me over. I'd had a few drinks and didn't really pay attention to who it was until the next block when my friends were talking about how they were going to tell their friends back in Northern California that they'd just seen Newt Gingrich.

A few years ago, my buddy Billy was performing his alt-country act as Earl Pickens in the East Village (look for his stage name on Youtube and at his self-named site), when I was informed by friends at my table that the couple behind us -- who'd slipped in during the set -- were none other than Janeane Garofolo and Jimmy Fallon.

JG got one of the kiddie cowboy hats that Billy distributed through the crowd. "Very fetching," I said to her, which got an indulgent thank-you. But my respect for her work went down a few notches, considering whom she was spending down-time with.

Policerule, that is quite an eclectic group of people to run into in 1 night. I have met Bob Costas, the NBC sports broadcaster. I walked past Bill, the first winner of The Apprentice, in Trump Tower about a year and a half ago & I used to see John Mellencamp shoot music videos when I was growing up in southern Indiana but those are my only brushes with celebrities.

The 'hard-rhymer' Chuck D got on my plane on the way to Cali from Atl last weekend. I recognized him right away but no one else did. He was very nice and down to earth. I said hi and that I always enjoyed his music and his message. Public Enemy's music is a pure sonic assault on the ears and mind (and how could you not love that crazy nut Flava Flav?!).

Towards the end of the four hour flight, I discreetly sent him a note asking if he could take a quick photo once we landed. He immediately came over to my seat with a brand new Public Enemy CD (autographed to me) and said we could do a photo outside after we landed. He was way cool. I saw that they were playing in LA this past week.

"YEAH BOYEEEEEEEEEEEE!"

Chek da pic out!

Hey, I'm jealous! Used to love his radio show.

Sat next to Billy Bob Thornton at my favorite sushi restaurant this spring, right before it burned down. Hm...you don't think...? ;)

I didn't know Public Enemy had a new CD. Cool photo. 8)

Anne B. Davis (Alice on the Brady Bunch) lived in Denver for awhile and I saw her a coujple of times. That's really the only famous person I've seen. Because, well, I live in Denver. I had a chance to meet Hank Aaron when I was eight years old and he was making an appearance at a store. But when I saw him across the room, I panicked and hid in the women's bathroom and my mother could not drag me out of there. Hopefully, if I ever get a chance to meet Stewart, I won't pull the women's restroom stunt again.
