I need to pick up the last couple Madonna albums, but I have Ray of Light and unabashedly love it. :)

Mike Watt played on a Clarkson record?????????? Dayum!

Just when you give up hope on the recording industry, you start seeing people like her and Joss Stone and even (gulp) Xtina Aguilera just rip it all up...

Oh, man -- I hated Kelly Fucking Clarkson. But like I said, she's probably good for what she does. I just hate what she does. At one point she sang, "I don't wanna hear about your beautiful life" and I had to stifle an "AMEN!"
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

I don't hate Kelly Clarkson but if she really was the guiding light for young women in music we'd be in deep creative shit! Fortunately, there are thousands of amazing young and not so young women out there making music that doesn't sell millions and who have the kind of talent Kelly Clarkson couldn't even spell.

Beth Ditto/The Gossip anyone?!
Regina Spektor?
Juliana Hatfield?
Rachel Yamagata?
Kim Deal?
Kim Gordon?
Kathleen Hanna?
Martha Wainwright?
Polly Paulsuma?
Kat Bjelland?
Laura Viers?
Maura Davis?

...and an army of thousands more.
:D

(yes yes yes I WAS a riot grrrl!)

When it comes to women, I listen to Siouxsie and Patti Smith.

And that's it.

Oh and the Slits.

Now, that's really it.

You're missing out duke. If you like angry shouty women try Babes In Toyland or Seven Year Bitch.

Are you a mentalist?!

Seriously, I won't get into this one with you - I've learnt it only backs men further into their corner when i get on my high horse about it!

Let me add Joan Jett and that crazy ass gal from the Plasmatics (wendy o williams freaked me the fuck out when I was younger). Kate Bush had her moments but I always feel like I should be drinking ambrosia and prancing around a mist covered garden with flowers in my hair wearing some gossimir get up. Sort of like a Summer's Eve commercial come to life.

Joan Jett is awesome and I do love Kate Bush, although I'll admit she can be a tad faerie-flowery for me too at times.

Sylvia Plath rocked. Too bad she was never in a band.

I don't think she was ever angry enough to be in a band!

I'm suspecting you haven't seen PJ Harvey live? or saw footage of Sandy West drumming for the Runaways? Or Shonen Knife? Perhaps the 5 6 7 8s? Or Lez Zeppelin <grin> Any these ladies would (or would have)simply blow you the fuck away! <cheshire grin>

"are you a mentalist?" hahahhahahahaha <collapses>

I could continue, but I'm done <grin>
