No new songs from the Police...

i personally think you may get a new song or two for the tour but not a new album- usually "reunion albums" suck....we like to remember the past.......

I don’t exactly know how it works with royal-ties and being famous, but doesn’t this give even more impact to Sting, despite the 2 others:

- Didn’t AS and SC earn some money because Sting always continued promoting the Polcie songs during 2 decades ?
- Would SC and AS been known in 2007 without Sting being Superstar on his own name ? especially for new generation of listeners.

Is this crazy how many replies have been made in such a short time? Yeah, this is really something everyone wants to know: any new songs, any new Police stuff? I think it would really be exciting to hear new songs and "Come on STING, you are normally not so modest with new songs!"

I think, Sting has written enough songs for movies, so he should really write one for a _reunion_. Shouldn't he? I mean, this happens just once. And I think every reunion has some new songs...

I just don't believe it. I am sure Sting will change his mind soon.

Stewart and Andy have played Police stuff live in recent years as well. Obviously, Stewart has done quite a bit to promote the band with his film and remixes.

IMO, it seems Sting's fame has always come from the fact that he was the most recognizable part of the Police in the eyes of the masses. I would invert your argument Philip. The Police aren't recognized today because Sting is a superstar... Sting is a superstar today because he was (and is) in the Police!

I find any attempt to break it down to a numerical percentage a mistake and completely impossible. Everyone not only brought something different to the band, but every fan has a different reason why they continue to enjoy the music today. Some love Andy's guitar, some love Stew's drumming, some love Sting's lyrics, some every bit of it but all to a different extent.

You. Just. Can't. Make. It. A. Number.

That's what I'm saying.

Hey sweetie!

I actually think the guys are about the only band out there who coul pull it off. In fact, I'm still betting that the inherent challenge of making a killer "reunion album" is something they're not going to ignore. Sting always said he wasn't nostalgic, so I have to think there has to be some "forward" movement to this project to make it go ahead (beyond of course a well-padded bank account).

But we're just going to have to wait and see.

georgygirl, don’t get it wrong : I have a huge respect for sting as a workman, a leader, an intelligent music composer.
But I clearly prefer Stewart as a man. Hi is my favourite. and I’ve always considerate, and said here many times:

Andy is a top guitarist
Stewart is a top drumer
Sting is (only) an average bass player.

The fact that a forum like this is permitted by Stewart, whereas in ‘Sting’s universe’ everything is merchandizing. Show how good Stewart is in fact. He is the heart of the Police, even if Sting is the brain.

Well, since you addressed me directly Philip, I'd better reply! I was staying out of this discussion because I'm sitting on the fence on this topic - obviously I would LOVE to hear new Police material - who wouldn't? But who knows if they will hold together as a unit long enough for it to happen, or if after a mammoth world tour they will have any energy left for a major creative endeavour. I'm trying not to have too many expectations about ANYTHING during this reunion, however long it may last.

has anyone thought that perhaps this is their way of putting out "feelers" to see what kind of response,from the fans, new songs would recieve.
as in aka- marketing strategy.

Dead on. I kind of avoided going in this direction because this is Stew's board, he reads it, and I don't want to bring up anything divisive that could instigate negativity or bad impulses in the band...but the fact of the matter is, The Police was Stewart's band from the beginning. He had the vision of what he wanted it to be. He was largely responsible for their sound. Andy and Stewart had experience, Sting didn't. Stewart had connections. His brothers were both in the business already, and both joined up to put the band in the game. The Police would never have gone anywhere without all those factors.

Bottom line, Stewart created the platform from which Sting "launched". Without it, nobody would know who Sting is. If he had tried to start from scratch doing the kind of stuff he's done as a solo artist, he would have been laughed out of the business. That's a fact.

Wait and see, you are completely right. I do sink the same : it's Stewart who made Sting & it's the Police that made Sting famous.

But, This was the case in the beginin; One can’t deny that nowadays, Sting is a huge incredible superstar on his own ! (a specially in Europe, where he is famous not only by 40/50 year old people nowing him as ex-police).
Then, being pushed by someone else (Stewart) and finding inspiration by someone else (Stew, Andy, etc.) is one thing. Then it’s another thing to do something with it. You understand what I mean?

Yes, is true. Sting is a huge and very commercial superstar. But this doesn't means that he is the best of them, in terms of true artist. At least not to me

Is like if you said Paul McCartney is the best from The Beatles because his incredible commercial way as a musician...

From Beatles, to me the best one was/is George Harrison. I'am still loving his style. His songs, even if there are just a few, always captured my attention in a deep way. Also I love his first solo song 'My sweet lord...

I don't know why, but from The Police, drum sounds capture me at the very first time...

I didn´t recognize which person played what instrument, just after a while. Before I have my very first album, I was hearing to much Police's music with my rock & roll cousins from New Orelans.

My cousin gave to me my very first Police´s album, and I am still remembering when I saw the Outlando's cover for the very first time, I thought, Uhhhhhhh, I don´t like this punkie guy with very short hair (Stingo) I really hope he is not the drummer.

Was and is Stewart, and I feel so good about it, because all videos I watched from The Police, I liked Stewart´s profile as true artist and human being...

And well all my story loving The Police's music at first, then SC/KK music, becomes after I already made my choice of who is the one I prefer, no matter is many people in our world think different from me.



Then I knew Gio (virtual/internet way), and some time later, I am posting here.
Now I found that we are a lovely bunch spreading in many parts of our world with the same music preference about KK, and we are increasing minute by minute...


So if there a new Police's song during or after the world tour, I hope it will be from Stewart...
