RS top 100 albums of 80s - Synchronicity #17

Rolling Stone magazine has release its top 100 albums of the 80s.

Only Police album is Synchronicity which is at 17. "Sting's bracing tenor was dramatically framed by the subtle third-world inflections in Copeland's drumming and Summers's delicately serrated guitar." While both Zeyatta and Ghost in the Machine were relaeased in the 80s, they didn't make the list.

Sting's Nothing Like the Sun is number 90. I know the album has its fans (including here) but I much prefer Dream of the Blue Turtles myself which isn't on the list.

An album that Stewart played on, Peter Gabriel's So is number 14.

Seriously. It's bad enough they shrunk the magazine and reduced its content but how many times a year do they need to recycle these bogus top 100 lists that they can pull out of their asses in five minutes. It's a good thing that they Have matt tiabi's articles (until Goldman Sachs orders a hit on him) otherwise i would have already canceled my subscription. .

I've always wondered how they compile these lists. If it was based just on sales, Thriller would be number one, with AC/DC's Back in Black at number two (released in 1980). If you take away the numbers, it's all just opinion.

I can see how they got some of these in the top 10, in terms of influence, but my top 10 of the 80's would be radically different.

What are YOUR top ten albums of the 80's?

For me, my top 10 list today will be different than my top 10 list tomorrow. As far as how they make these lists, one journalist i follow has flat out said these top 10 lists or whatever that you read in magazines are just made up as filler material because it is cheaper and easier for lazy editors to produce than paying for real substantive articles.

Thriller is not #1? Useless list. And for anyone who hasn't seen Michael Jackson's This Is It. You will be very amazed and entertained! I was not fan, due to his later career misadventures, but the talent on display in the film is extraordinary.
