Sorry, I can't let this go now that you all have jogged my memory. Call it WAAAYYYY to much coffee this morning but this song is AWESOME!!!!

RAINBOW CONNECTION
Kermit the Frog

Why are there so many songs about rainbows
And what's on the other side
Rainbow's are visions they're only illusions
And rainbows have nothing to hide
So we've been told and some chose to believe it
But I know they're wrong wait and see

Someday we'll find it the Rainbow Connection
The lovers, the dreamers and me

Who said that every wish would be heard and answered
When wished on the morning star
Somebody thought of that and someone believed it
And look what it's done so far
What's so amazing that keeps us star gazing
What do we think we might see

Someday we'll find it that Rainbow Connection
The lovers the dreamers and me

Have you been half asleep and have you heard voices
I've heard them calling my name
Are these the sweet sounds that called the young sailors
I think they're one and the same
I've heard it too many times to ignore it
There's something that I'm supposed to be

Someday we'll find it the Rainbow Connection
The lovers, the dreamers and me...

The first albums I remember having that were mine and not hand-me-downs (like The Monkees or Mary Poppins/Sound of Music) were David Cassidy Cherish and Cher (the one with Half Breed). I was 8 or 9....cut me some slack!! I think I still have them.

My first 8-TRACK (come on folks let's hear those too!) was Paul McCartney's Wings Over America, courtesy of SambucaSubaru, when I got a stereo with 8-track player for Christmas one year.

I don't even remember my first cassette. But I had lots.

My first CD, when that new fangled technology came out, was The Beatle's Sgt Pepper.

(Did anyone ever get any reel-to-reel tapes from Columbia House? )

Great topic.

My first albums...gift-wise...were the likes of the Carpenters, The Partridge Family, The Beatles Blue & Red albums. I think TPF came first, not sure. And, I did get David Cassidy Cherish, like SS. I also used to listen to my parent's Sonny & Cher and 5th Dimension albums.

However, in 1976 (I was 13) my first album(s) purchased with my own $ from babysitting were...both bought on the same day...Boston (debut album) and Aerosmith's - Get Your Wings.

My first 8-track was The Eagles - Hotel California...actually received by default...my girlfriend had an extra tape and gave it to me since my first car (1979) had an 8-track player....ah, "Life In The Fast Lane"...especially when you've just turned 16.

Kiss Alive II. My Aunt had this one and I begged my parents for a copy of this at the ripe of age of six.

This thread actually inspired me to go back through my vinyl and I found things I had long forgotten. Granted some of the stuff should have stayed dead and buried but I unearthed some gems as well. I found Kiss Alive I & II, all my old Police albums and one I didn't ever remember buying. The soundtrack to Brimstone & Treacle with songs by the Police? Wow, now I need to find a turntable as everything in this house is digital.

The first album I bought with my own money was New Season by Donny and Marie Osmond followed shortly after by ABBA's Voulez Vous.

I have no idea what the first CD I bought was, probably something by R.E.M.

I had a Columbia House membership but I didn't get reel-to-reel tapes.

Me too.
If I get a turntable though I suspect my vinyls are gonna be all scratchy. I always knew there was a reason that my Mum used to nag me to pick up my clothes and records off the bedroom floor when I was 13.
I think it went something along the lines of "Will you clean up that bloody room! Your Father and I have forgotten what colour the carpet is!"

Thanks for seasonally updating your avatar, shyv. Nothing else puts me in the holiday spirit quite like Stewart's throbbing balls.

Ahh going by the first one I paid for with my own money, that would Clapton's 461 Ocean Boulevard.

Well at least they wrote their own music, and played instruments, two things The Backstreet Boys never did.
