well, i just got in from piccadilly where my punk band (LARP) should have wowed 'em with a gig. however the promoter turned out to be a fucking idiot who tried to squeeze on loads of bands:

"sorry lads would you mind going on at 11.15pm instead of 10pm?"

erm.

yes we fucking would you idiot... how are we gonna do a 45 min set in 15 minutes??? the guitarist is catching a plane at 1am, and fans have to leave to catch trains etc..... cue lots of arguing, some inventive name-calling (i held my own on that front - "piss stained fuckwit" i think was among the best) drummer fighting with a fan of ours who'd been trying to get us on the stage at some point this evening........... and abandon gig, swear lots, call the guy a stupid wanker who had (failed) to organise the night, and leave without playing. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK. if someone suggests going to 'the comedy', next to the comedy store in leicester square; tell 'em to fuck off; or better still go and call the promoter a tnuc from me.

bollocks. some people can't organise a piss up in a brewery, evidently.

Great to see what everyone is up to!

smax - that gig situation really stinks, hope the next one goes better. It's terrible when something like that happens, but at least you know to avoid the promoter and venue next time.


From my end -

have been recording demos in the studio with a view to a new release, playing a few shows and taking a break soon to write and finish new material. We were also recently filmed by www.moshcam.com so the footage should be up for free viewing in a few weeks.


I've also been running a collective called 'The Bird's Robe Collective' aimed at promoting progressive rock bands and putting on shows with like-minded musicians. More info about it here www.myspace.com/birdsrobe

We had our last show at the Annandale Hotel in Sydney to a packed room, which was great so hopefully things can only get bigger and better from here =)

Is it true that some bars lure bands in for a price and then try to renegotiate at the end of the night or just screw them out of pay? I've heard about that happening quite frequently. I'm assuming that doesn't happen to "popular" local bands or they wouldn't come back.

Myself, I have 2 bands on the hop at the moment.
"Orange Whips" - R&B, Soul, Motown sort of thing.
"That 80s Band" - an 80s cover band. Yes, we do a Police song (MIAB), which soulds excellent since the addition of the blue bell ride and the 12" Twenty hats. =o)

Gigging just about every weekend, sometimes both nights, so about 60-100 gigs a year. keeps me off the streets.

All too true, unfortunately. Whenever Marc has a contract to do ANYTHING, he requires them to pay him at the beginning of the night for this very reason. That way, if they try to screw him, he can bail.

i've got a gig on wednesday (tomorrow) which i've just found out about; nothing like getting enough notice for a gig....and this is nothing like getting enough notice..etc etc

this wednesday is Pick Up Sticks on at 10pm for 30 mins at The Troubadour club ( www.troubadour.co.uk ) which is where coco played with pete docherty recently...... i'll pass on regards from TOWOS if pete turns out again!
