I forget where I read or heard this but Stewart even mentioned how they'd be up on stage and Deb would be trying her hardest, and guys in the audience just wanted to hear him and Stanley rip and would literally stand there waving at her to get off the stage.
Eek and egads. That's just horrible.
But in general, for me the thing about AL isn't that I don't like their music -- which I don't, and I admit that. (Forgive me, Stewart.) It's that I don't get the logic (ugh, no pun) behind them. E.g., I openly dislike Rush's music, but I understand Rush and their music, and I understand what it is that draws people to them, even if I'm not one of those people. I could just never figure out how SC and SC -- and the kind of basso, rumbling fabulousness that they could create together -- thought it made sense to get behind Holland and her tunes.
Again, as always, forgive me, Stewart. Holland is probably good at what she does and is also probably a very lovely person. I've just never figured out how that was expected to jibe, I guess. Particularly since the two SCs together created such a powerful rhythm section and generated such intensity live (as people have mentioned). Adding the Holland stuff seemed like volunteering to be manacled. It just boggles my mind somehow.
