And Maude, for some intelligent pompous music that is sure to get your kid thinkin', go for The Soul Cages album by Sting!!!!!

EDIT: I think I could be wrong about Claude Bolling...sounds like it could be not sure.

YEAH, THAT WAS IT! It was Claude Bolling and I think the other guys name was Jean Jacque SimethingthatbeginswithanR. The violinist toured a lot and I saw him in concert at UCSB - I just can't rememger his darn name - Rampaul? Wow, you rock. My family got a big charge out of it, seeing as she was playing it in a PlaySchool tape player. Devin's the Rasta Mama of the family now.

I used to walk 7 miles a day during each pregnancy and listen to music all the way; always wondered if that had something to do with their taste; with Devin it was a lot of Grover Washington, Joe Sample, Bobbi Humphrey and a little John Coltraine; Kiernan was Joshua Tree and Dream of the Blue Turtles, Kiernan was Depeche Mode 101 (it was a phase,lol). I didn't walk much with Timmy and he's the only one that listens to popular music. Hmmmm....

Sorry I'm late to the party, but maybe some Brazilian or African music? A lot of Western music is derived from themes sometimes found in traditional music (a good example is the old hit 'Lion Sleeps Tonight' by The Tokens; it's a version of a traditional African song called 'Mbube', the most famous version of which was recorded by Mariam Makeba.)

Hope your son had a very Happy Birthday.

So what did he think about your choice of music?

Well, at first he was a bit disappointed that he didn't get any Lego (we have tons of Lego, we could build our own house of Lego )
But now he likes his mp4 very much. He is still listening and processing. He likes the numbers he already knew (yeah yeah). And he said that he liked the "rock" songs more than the rest. But he discoveres new songs every day. When things get more clear, I'll let you know.

although i guess the love of dance music comes later when the crushing teenage years arrive and young people balance the uncertainty in their own lives with the inescapable security of repetitive beats...
