No. You know, there were a lot of people who complained -- to me -- oh, he's ruined the arrangements, he should be playing it the old way. But I always thought, no -- when you've got Vinnie Colaiuta on drums, you wanna hear what Vinnie does. You've already heard my version -- Vinnie is worth checking out. This kind of bothered me as well.
I haven't heard all of the stuff from Sting's last tour, but what I did hear sounded like he was going back to the original arrangements. Not to take anything from Andy at all, but Dominic is great and I don't mind hearing him doing his own thing, or copping Andy riffs. But that drummer just doesn't have the right "feel" as far as I'm concerned. It just doesn't work for me.
I did hear Vinnie do a wicked Stewart impersonation on a Wang Chung album once, so it would have been cool to hear Sting, Dominic, and Vinnie doing the original arrangements. I'd gladly take that if I can't get the "real thing", but that is just me being selfish.
Out of respect for the others, he should have stayed away from the original arrangements. To me, this just came across as a way to get his "Police" fan base back, but not have to deal with Stewart and Andy.

We were getting an award. Some French award. Nobody can remember what the hell the award was....And there was some kind of photo opportunity for some magazine or God knows what. So the concept was: "The Police -- arrested!" There were many, many of these moments, where we'd get an award for something, and the magazine wants to take a picture of us accepting the award, and they think up some backdrop, some concept -- "Okay, let's have the guys doing something!" In this case: "Okay, let's have the guys chained to the top of the building! Police arrested!" It was one of those dumb concepts -- which was very fortunate, though, because I got that cool shot."

This shot was taken in December 3, 1979 (and not in 1984 as mentioned in the movie) on the top of the "Théatre de l'Empire", Paris.
The Police did a concert in this venue the same night, broadcasted by the french channel Antenne 2.
I've got this concert, and in the beginning of this broadcasting - called "Chorus", a famous french rock show in the late 70's -, we can see the french TV journalist and presenter Antoine De Caunes introducing the show and having a word about the prize The Police won this day. It was awarded by the french rock critics - all of them wearing raincoats, hats and sunglasses like secret agents (the same guys we can see in the bonus material on Everyone Stares DVD !) - for The Police as being best group of 1979 !
It's followed by a short scene from downstairs showing The Police chained to the top of the building, receiving the prize from a girl and giving kisses...
We can find this scene by the eye of Stewart on the DVD !

This interview is amazing.
It seems like he really says what he means. He recognizes Sting and Andy don’t really appreciate the ‘derangements’. Of course, it’s a big incomprehensible hypocrisy from Sting to play the police songs the way he does now. We had many discussions on this loose of substance (I actually know only Giovanni who love them even that way). And this sentence sounds great to my ears:
Stewart: " If he wakes up one day and wants to do a Police show, he's got my number."
