Oh man. I don't mean to sound all high and mighty about this, but I guard my vinyl collection with my life. To stop it from getting too humid, too hot, etc.

Well, and I have some fairly irreplaceable stuff from Back in the Day. Also, I tend to think actual records sound better...more depth of range & stuff...

OK, my mom did get her hands on my Mad magazine collection & gave it to Goodwill...I guess that counts...

And I've actually added, like, somewhere around 400 more images to the archive in the past two weeks or so (*facepalm*). Just playing catch-up. And at some point I'm going to organize it all in a way that really makes sense...

I just have to tell you that I think your gallery is fantastic, it's got almost every single photo of Stewart/The Police out there. Great job!

Thanks! :D Though trust me, I think so far I'm only scratching the surface. One of these days I'll make a *real* dent in my collection...

I disagree, so slow down with the IPOD talk. Listen, and respect your elders for a second! :D

Back in the day, we listened to vinyl and cassettes, the way the originals were intended to be heard! I have several vinyl records which sound so much warmer and fuller than the cd versions. You get so much more low end sound off of most analog vinyl recordings. Cd's can be crisper sounding, and digital gets rid of most of the hiss sound, but you lose the low end when listening to alot of re-issues on cd. Some of that is due to bad remixing as well.

Try listening to a nice clean copy of Zenyatta on vinyl with a high quality turntable and system, then see if you can even stand listening to it on cd. Stewart's snare drum cuts so much more on that vinyl....to me anyways.

I wanted a turn table when I was younger (for the KK records), but I wasan't allowed to, can't recall why.

And I've been wondering, is an LP and a record the same thing, what about album?

When I was a kid my neighbor had one, and we use to put paper plates on it, and color it with markers. That was so much fun.

Sockii keep the link in your profile?

Yes, dear, all three are the same thing. You can get a pretty good turntable for about $100 at your local Sam Ash...or anyplace that stocks DJ equipment. You'll need a couple cables and whatnot to plug it into your amplifier.

The beauty of it is, you really will build up your music collection quickly if you start buying records...they're a lot cheaper, many places. Only drawback is they're harder to mailorder due to breakage and warping, obviously.

Grace, if I have any of your LPs I may be willing to grant you visitation rights. Or at least to dub you off a copy. I had a pretty good time recording a couple old Residents records for a young friend recently - it's not that hard to do if you have a preamp, one of which I bought for a radio program I hosted recently.

The only Police record I don't yet have is Ghost in the Machine.

Oh fuck I left Ever Breath You Take The Singles in the car for a few days, that's going to warp it, isn't it?

I started off with Synchronicity, I got it for 0.75 the rest were about $3.50.

There cool. It makes more since for music to play from a cd, or as an mp3 then a record, but a plastic thing that plays music when a needle is rubbed in it's groves (that sounds dirty), just seems weird.

I'm really curious about what's under the plastic coating, what do they look like? What makes it play? I never wondered that about cd's, maybe because cd's have just always been around.

Let me get this straight - you think a series of 0s and 1s, as played by a laser from inside to out is perfectly normal, but a needle following the laws of physics when it strikes grooves causing vibration is weird? ;)

Anything is weird if you think about it enough. Did you know the electrons inside your cells are both there and not at the same time? Or that nobody really knows why gravity works? It's amazing we're even here at all...

I guess because lasers is higher technology it just makes since for it to work, but friction?

One thing I love about vinyl is the sizable 12.5"x12.5" cover art. I cry to think of what Zenyatta Mondatta's inner-sleeve photo montages must look like compressed into 125mm long-145mm wide CD liner notes.
