well, sure. but i don't see it happening right away. it's been even longer since the last primus album (and a REALLY long time since the last "real" primus album). not that i would prefer one to the other, but last i heard that was a project on les' immediate horizon. trey seems to be doing the "solo" thing right now, anyway. and a new oysterhead project better not get in a the way of a new rhythmatist project!

Somehow I managed to get right up front at the Bonnaroo show and - boy howdy - those boys can rock and roll. Wow. I was just blown away. I'd go to no small amount of trouble to see them live again. (A sad note: the Saenger Theater, where the band played its first show, is still shuttered after Katrina. It's a shadow of <strike>a man</strike> its former self.

Anyone know where I can get a copy of that Saenger performance recording, by the by?)

On the other hand, as it's been famously noted, many of us have not seen the actual Rhythmatist movie. So this may be a tossup...

I know there's a copy of an Oysterhead show on nugs.net. You may be able to get the first show, which I have a low-grade copy of, off gdlive.com. It's been a while since I've been to those sites, but I know I've seen it out there for the taking.

It's too bad Stewart didn't do "Wield the Spade" at Bonnaroo, but what they played was amazing and my "Internet highlight" of the summer.

i waited forever for les and stew to do something together. i would read about how they were buddies and hung out together for years and always wondered "why not?" then i read of the first show they played together and got super excited! i was thrilled to finally see (and hear) the album.

i haven't seen oysterhead in person. i did just watch their clip on the claypool dvd this evening, and i wanna see more.. but c'mon! there hasn't been any new rhythmatist material in over 20 years! i guess i just prefer to see stewart in the preeminent creative/writing role, even though he only co-wrote half the songs on rhythmatist. its my single most favored album, so i'm a bit biased...

One of my dreams is to see them in a live show too.

I got to see Oysterhead in Hollywood when they toured a few years ago. Even though the Palladium sound system is horrible their brilliant playing still showed through. Of course, any opportunity to see Stewart play live is well worth it.

Am I the only one who thinks Les and Trey's vocals are grating? The playing on that album is so amazing, it's too bad neither of those guys can sing. Still, I'd take a new Oysterhead album over a new Sting album any day.

Wield The Spade by GIZMO was very kool.... I'll take a new Oysterhead tour just to see that again. If it comes with a new cd I won't complain.

I disagree on the singing, actually.

I'm probably really here because of that Oysterhead show. I've always been a fan of Stew, but damn! they were so good! And I live in Nashville, and see a lot of live music, so I have quite a few other shows to compare things to.

I've had friends who went bananas over Claypool for years. And it was like, at this one show, it hit me like a lightningbolt what all the fuss was over. The man is the reincarnation of Frank Zappa!! I LOVE it!! Geez I've listened that record to death...(he also channels the Residents fairly well)

I do skip the Birthday song featuring Trey fairly often. I don't hate him, but I figure he's got a zillion fans already, what does he need me for

And am I the only one where Trey reminds me of Clapton? It's the guitar playing along with the facial hiar.

And I too would take another Oysterhead album over Sting.... Gerorgy is so going to mock me on that one.

Ok Folks...

My two cents on Oysterhead.

If I listen to it in the frame of mind that it's simply a jam band thing I can stand it for about 3-4 songs.

If I approach it by thinking it's an amazing new thing that is ground breaking, I end up disappointed.

I had a good friend who is a great musician (guitarist) and went to Bonnaroo. He said Oysterhead was a disappointing concert. He expected more. I told him it really is just a jam band to be honest.

Don't get me wrong. I will always support Stewart (even though I don't think the Doors reunion was a good idea). I just think I am entitled to call it as I see it. Les is talented as well as Anastasio. Maybe if Stewart was more of the lead writer and the youger pups went along with him, the end result could be better.
