Alrighty, maybe copelandos_damour or Gio can confirm this for us, but Iain is reporting over on AUI that a.) ES:TPIO will be on VH1 soon, and b.) Stew is working on a new movie - of other bands he's filmed. Apparently this was divulged during the London Q&A.

Yay! More attention for the film! AND ANOTHER ONE!!!! I am so geeked out about this already...didn't Stew say he had about a scadzillion hours of footage of various IRS bands?? Oh man! I hope it's true!! (Only thing is, if he's working on another movie, do we get another Oysterhead album this year? I dearly hope so, as I've flat worn out my copy of <i>Pecking Order.</i> My only consolation is that the new Les Claypool record is outtasite. I have it in heavy rotation at the moment...)

On another note (heh), anyone know if I can get the first Oysterhead record on vinyl? We just got a really great turntable and new speakers. I had forgotten how much better actual records sound than CDs...

Yeah, it's true. It's his next movie. He talked a lot about it at the screening and he said that it contains the footage he's got of all the bands and artists he shot with his camera during those early years.
Bow Wow Wow, Adam Ant, etc.
I feel sort of worried for Stew though, 'cause legalising that movie must be even more of a nightmare than Everyone Stares!
Hope he doesn't reach a breakdown or anything.
I'm damn proud of him though. Keep the films coming!

You sound like my Dad, he says he misses his umm, what are they called? Thoes things before tapes, that allowed you to play music (besides the radio) in the car.

it's good to see him continue with the film work. editing can be a highly addictive activity!

i'm curious to see what he turns out. it actually sounds like an uphill battle to find a receptive audience. i suspect it will boil down to what musicians will play a part in it. i mean, a movie about a very significant band that made music 20 years ago that holds up today is one thing, but i keep hearing adam ant's name thrown around in conjunction with this project. i mean, i like goody two shoes as much as anybody, but last i heard the guy was reduced to dropping trent reznor's name (NIN covered adam on broken) in interviews over ten years ago.

i just hope stewart uses the movie to make a grand statement about the pop music world and the largely disposeable nature of the artists that find themselves in it. the footage he has would play well to that idea or something similar. i also hope he puts a lot of himself in it, be it in voiceover or whatever.

i'm still waiting breathlessly for his new rhythmatist movie, which he mentioned in the same interview as this idea some months back. THAT'S going to (gong) rock no matter how you slice it!

Is this new movie a release of "So what", a super 8 film Stewart shot in the 80's ?
It can be interesting to have his personnal view of what happened in the post-punk era.

Stewart is thinking about the new movie based on other bands filmed in Uk and on tour by the end of the Seventies, but he doesn't talk that much about it right now.

Well, we gotta give him time. He's still doing promos for ES:TPIO and will be for a while, I'm sure.

I'm not sure I agree on the search for an audience. It'll depend on what footage he has and what angle he chooses to play with it; I mean, how many people still watch documentaries on punk rock? If I weren't so lazy I'd get up and look up the name of the one I saw on IFC not long ago; also, I saw "We Jam Econo", about the band Minutemen, the second it came out.

wow, i would love to see "so what"! this was a documentary he made in the late '80s on the punk movement. as far as i know, it's never had a broad release of any sort. i did see a couple of clips back in the day. i think he mentioned it in that famed costas interview, alluding to the irony of how interested he was in the punk scene when he founded the police, but at the point he made the movie, he was a source of tension to the real punks because he'd made it big. that would be fascinating.

late '70s bands? ah, i was thinking more mid-80s. still, i think it could be used to take a larger shot at a music industry that regularly discards its heroes. of course, i'm commenting on footage i haven't even seen, just speculating...

when was "we jam econo" released? i love double nickel!
