What is your favourite Spyro music? : )

Postby Princess Peachie on 03 Aug 2006 08:02

I just want to know which Spyro music was the most popular. : )
Also, naming your favourites tracks and saying why would be nice. ^_^
(I am not including the Spyro games that Stewart Copeland didn't make the soundtrack for)

I personally love Spyro 1 music- it's so... cool! I love it's surreal sound and amzing rythm. Spyro 2 music is also amazing with rythm (but could you ask more from Mr Copeland himself? X3), but it is less surreal.

Most of all, I am in love with Spyro 4 (Enter the Dragonfly ) music. It is simply beautiful. *sighs*... ^_^ I am in love with Thieve's Den music and the Thieve's Den Platform maze- very creepy and somewhat wonderfully depressing. Also, the home world tune is very beautiful and light hearted. ^_^

Princess Peachie! Great topic, but also very hard to answer :( Judging my favourite Spyro music is difficult, but here are a few of my favourite tracks and a mini review. I couldn't pick the music from just one game though, but one thing I must say, the music from the first Spyro, is the one which I'm most familiar with, it's basically a soundtrack I've grown up with :)

Anyway, my favourite Spyro tracks

Spyro 1
Toasty/Gnasty's World - I love it's surreal quality, it has such subtle grace and it seems to glide into a wonderful bassy crescendo and the mysterious string instruments are beautiful. It plays on the senses with a beautiful combination of foreboding crescendos and dulled thumping bass couple with the frequent sound of the snare, the bells tingle away into a saga of sombre bass before turning into an angstier version of the Spyro theme song
Dry Canyon - I imagine this track pictured as it is in the game, with some illusive figure playing away on a massive organ. The tempo of the bass and piano throughout the song is glorious ambience and love the point which it combines with guitar chords - awesome
Ice Cavern - One of the most beautiful tracks I've ever heard, the strong undertones and melodic high notes are gorgeous. The bassline has a definite, rich quality throughout the song. The song posesses the most exquisite piece of violin I've heard. It is enchanted with the eerie presence of gospel like vocals cradled by the elegance of the track. It's basically the theme of my dreams.
Dark Passage - The guitar and bass unity is astonishing, the underlying bass sets a tone of animosity, the chorus of the song becomes rock-ish, but with a sublime quality unique to Stewart Copeland. Horns sound to introduce the astonding bridge of the song, where the drumming is superb...this track just fills me with a desire to climb higher and higher.
End Credits - An exquisite bassline from start to finish, with a combination of ghost drumming, electric organ and piano eternally crecendoing and decrescendoing in dainty swoops

Spyro 2
Hurricos - I must agree with the review of Hurricos - complete euphoria, wrapped in gentle electronic beats - the bass is some of my favourite ever
Skelos Badlands - Unique, an astonding combination of obvious electronic influence with a beautiful organic quality
Breeze Harbour - Amazing drums. A stunning track, harmonised and intrigingly catchy

Spyro 3
Fireworks Factory - Whoa! Opens to the sound of a a dramatic movie, glides into a echoy sound of a keyboard, followed by a fast introduction of electronic beats and techno-ish drumming and a rolling bassline, then enchanting high pitched whistling and an enhanced bass influence, before the fast drumming and hollow xylophone dominate. The song flows into a bouncy bassline, combined with delicate eclectic sounds. Divine. So catchy, influenced on alot of levels and a true work of art

Apparently there is a growing interest in taking video game music and re-arranging the pieces into orchestral symphonies. There was such a concert in northern Virginia this evening performed by the National Symphony Orchestra. They showed the video game on big screen tvs while the orchestra performed the pieces. I would love to have seen it but I didn't find out about it until I saw it on the 10:00 news. Here is a link to the site: http://www.play-symphony.com/ . I hope Stewart does this with the Spyro music some day.

@conroy: WOW yes that would be amazing if Stewart did this with the Spyro music!! But sometimes I worry that it's all 'in the past' for him... huh, I hope this isn't the case!

@spyroseductress: O_O... Your reviews are amazingly perfect. I couldn't have put them better myself. And the ones you picked to review are all ones I adore deeply! XD

Toasty is one of my favourite spyro tracks ever. I love the way it builds up to the main spyro tune rock bit. It is all so elegant and mysterious, yet still so catchy and funky! XD

I think Dry Canyon is a truly beautiful peice of work- awesome review, I couldn't agree more, ss! ^_^ At the start it sounds quite messy (but in a good way) and then it turns into a beautiful thing which gives a picture of a setting sun in the desert canyon.

Ice Cavern- stunning, yes. One of the most atmospheric tunes I've ever come across. Perfect for the level- a cold, cavernous sort of sound which is wonderful.

Hurricos and Breeze Harbour- two of my deepest favourites, especailly Hurricos, as I said before. Sometimes... okay this is weird... sometimes it make smy eyes watery. GAHHH I sound like a freak now. >_< Hauuuh.. @_@

Fireworks Factory- Another big favourite of mine. Awesome dance track. I just love it when Stewart brings in the xylophone!!! GAWD because of him I am now in love with that sound, as well as the tinkling bells he so often uses. : )

i'm a lot more versed in the spyro music than i was starting out, but i'm still just getting to know it it seems. i was recently able to add all of this stuff to my collection, and it is seriously overwhelming! 133 songs, basically eight albums of music. in one fell swoop i increased my stewart copeland collection by about 33%!

i can heartily recommend all of it. from the first time he put one of the tunes in the vault here, i knew it was more to my liking than some of the other material he had in there at the time. since then he has shared parts of spyro 1 there and has plans to share some tunes from the second game. so, no, i don't think he considers it old hat. he has also adapted at least one of the songs into a format presented live by notte del taranta (spelling?). stewart has a lot of feet... one is planted in the rock world, one in film scoring, one in game music, one in symphonic literature, and yet another in his own eclectic musical vision (where i categorize the rhythmatist, even tho i hate categories!). so i also see a lot of potential in the growing trend conroy mentions as helping to increase the prominence of this music.

i'm still not up to speed enough to pick a favorite collection, but there is a song that really leaped out at me. i heard it for the first time in my car, and i had to backtrack and listen again, it grabbed me immediately. it's called molten crater. it's instantly catchy and danceable with very high energy, and right now it's my favorite spyro tune. it's from the third game, but i suspect a few here are already familiar with it...

How's it going Jedsoon? It's sweet to here from you again too! I'm in a bit of a hurry, but you mention liking Molten Crater as your favourite spyro tune at the moment, and of course Spyro music is my number one priority;) I know the track...It has a voice that goes something like 'woo' in it right? Lol, it fantastic and it has really heart thumping bass and all different components to it, it's kindof like looking from side to side really quickly except with your ears, if you get what I mean:P Anyway, it's great, thanks for sharing that with us Spyro fans. Thanks Princess Peachie, I'm glad you agree:) We seem to like the same stuff, it's great:)

Oh, by the way, this dosen't matter at all but you shared my true identity:P Now everyone knows my name isn't spyroseductress...just messing:P Anyway keep in touch!

whoops! your secret identity is out!! now all the super-villains of the world will be out to get you!!!

another spyro tune is jumping out at me. already mentioned by princess peachie, its fireworks factory! hard to believe it is basically almost a straightforward techno tune, but i am finding slightly more irresistable than the other spyro songs at the moment... except molten crater!

fear not, georgy. stewart will be sharing more of these songs with us shortly..!

Sure as hell Stewart's Spyro music rocks the world! I love his stuff from the first Spyro the Dragon. Its perfectly simple and simply perfect. But although it sounds simple the rhythms and melodys are sometimes so subtle obscure like he tries out all new things. It makes it sound so original.

I agree toasty/gnasty's world is a masterpiece. I was playing around with my guitar the other day and i struck two little chords and they were exactly the same as the beginning of that track. So i think Stewart finds something like that and just builds on it.

I love the dream weavers track. The bass and the e-guitar and the piano are so great together! I love the way Stewart builds those crescendos that that lope along so harmoniously.

The rift in dry canyon is amazing.

All the bass is some of the best i've ever heard. Must be the inspiration of Sting.

Stewart, you da man!

I am obsessed with Dry Canyon right now. It is just so beautiful.... I LOVE the base bit before and after the loud break in of the piano (is it a piano??). Just beautiful... *sighs* ^_^;;

Oh, also- what about the re-mix of Wizard's Peak (it's a slower version of the Wizard Peak track; I can't remember what level it was an alternative track for...). The more I listened to it, the more addictive it became. It's got a hidden beauty to it that the original is lacking a little.

Also: Metalhead- for such a scary level in the game it is a fantastic peice of music. Very eerie and yet, once again, beautiful. Sorry, my vocabulary went for a walk today so I'm missing good describing words. XD
