No Foo Fighters tickets for me but I have got my hands on some Morrissey tickets for January and I'm off to see Ian Brown next week :D

Edited to say...

...and I almost forgot that I'm seeing Brucie (Springsteen NOT Forsyth!) next month at his one and only London show this year :D
You ALMOST FORGOT that you were seeing springsteen?! This is with the E-street Band, right? I assume you've been working too hard love, and your brain is a bit fried.

Hey larissa, I'm glad somebody got FF tickets :-) There were about 8 of us all trying for standing tix, and nobody managed to get through. Great that they're getting that kind of response though.

Not a rock concert, but hubby and I went to Handel's Julius Caesar at the Lyric Opera on Wednesday. This was David McVicar's Glyndebourne production from 2005.

Best. Opera. Ever.

I was transfixed for a full four and a half hours, which for me is certainly saying something. Everything was fantastic: singing, staging, choreography, costumes, and of course the music. I am a huge Baroque fan, and in particular I like the interplay of harpsichord and cello in Baroque music.

It's a production that is serious and high quality without taking itself too seriously. I thought the Bollywood-meets-Madonna choreography gave the production a lovely tongue-in-cheek edge, and the colorful staging set it off well.

My favorite scene was at the end of the first Act, where Caesar and Ptolemy meet for some chilly diplomacy. They dance, a diplomacy dance, and the music is just gorgeous. The continuo (2 cellos, bass, 2 harpsichords, and a funky big lute with a 4-foot neck called a theorbo) played absolutely brilliant percussion through the whole dance suite. I was literally sitting on the edge of my seat and tapping my foot and hand along with them. It was beautiful. And the dance choreography captured the chilly diplomacy with great elegance and humor.

Another great feature was having a woman as conductor, French harpsichordist Emmanuelle Haim. She both conducted and played second harpsichord, and it was great.

It's also available on DVD:

The last two nights I spent seeing my favorite tribute act, the Musical Box, and it was amazing as always, especially last night as it was a new show I hadn't seen them do before. What I love about them is they're not just a cover act but a complete concert re-staging, and each of their four shows is for a different early-Genesis tour (Foxtrot, Selling England by the Pound, SEbtP (Black Show), and Lamb Lies Down on Broadway).

I'd never seen the Black Show before and WOW. It was just fascinating to see it last night right after seeing the regular SEbtP show the night before, representing early and then later-period versions of the same setlist. They actually recreated every subtle variation in arrangements of the songs, the staging, etc., giving you that feeling of "this is a band that's comfortable and exploring the music now" instead of a band in the early stages of testing out new material on the road.

Their drummer is just fucking incredible, and everytime I hear their singer, Denis, it sounds like he is sounding more and more like Peter Gabriel until it is quite uncanny.

Their last couple shows for the year are coming up...if you get a chance to see them and like early Genesis at all, don't miss it.

I would like to see the real Genesis live, but they, bad people ( ), aren't coming to Argentina on they tour.
Another reason because The Police won the best reunion tour!..hehe. Joking. They won it because they deserved it.

I am going to steal Stewart's greetings and change it with my traditional see ya!. Forgive me Stewart, but I like it more!.

See y'all!

will be seeing Duran Duran on Dec. 11th.
Let me know what you think of the show! I'm curious.

I've been a near lifelong Duranie to some extent or another, but I must confess I'm horribly disappointed in the new album. It sounds like such generic trendy dancepop to me; without Simon's voice I don't think I would have even recognized it as Duran Duran at all :( I thought Roger was still with them but all the drumming sounds like it came right out of a drum machine (not that I'd necessarily put him anywhere on my list of top drummers, but he still had a recognizable sound to me that's completely missing from this album, among other things...)
let me tell you, like you, i at first did not like the album...but now i've come to think it pretty good..i kind of like the dance trax, and i can kind of understand the direction they went....altho the real hardcore fans are really pissed, but if you really look at their past, they really did start off that way...in dance clubs and all...

i did go see them on the 11th, and man i have to say they really are back! they gave a great show and i was up front(in front of John, my favorite, ) and they gave a really good show...performed over 2 hrs. and despite the fact that Andy left the group, the new guy was actually as good as Andy...so if you like Duran, you really should try to check them out if they come thru...

Just found out that Serj Tankian will be touring with the Foos next year! And he's playing the Philly show with them!

I'm just bouncing off the walls over this, as I mentioned in another thread that Serj's Elect the Dead is my favorite album from '07 and I was just hoping I'd get the chance to see him in concert in '08...

Just got tickets for The New Pornographers & Okkervil River, 20 April, here in Chicago.

Oh, and we're going to Adrian Belew in early March also; that's more for my husband than me (he's a huge Belew fan, and he's had the patience of a saint with all of my Stewart and Police wanderings ...), but I'm looking forward to it.

!!!! I am *very* tempted to book a flight up there and catch the Pornographers with you, Lynne. I've seen 'em three times and the most recent show, about three months ago, was absolutely freaking fantastic. Neko's out with them all spring, right? God I love that girl.

I've got two sets of tix to see Aussie fave Paul Kelly...Kansas City week of March 7, and L.A. 18 March (will see if I have time to cat around with some of you local lovelies). Trouble is, he's opening for Big Head Todd (!) on all the Midwest dates...what a crime. It's like having Bob Dylan open for Clay Aiken...there are only three headlining shows and I had a conflict with the D.C. one, unfortch.
