Klark Kent on CD??

All right, y'all...I'm thinking it's time I landed myself a copy of the Klark Kent record. I've heard it before, but it's been 20 years...

Ebay and other sites are full of copies of it on vinyl, but as it's averaging 96 degrees F here every day (about 33 degrees C), I'm thinking it's not a good time to be mail-ordering LPs, then having them melt and warp in the mailbox.

Anybody know where I can get my mitts on the Collected Works on CD for less than a squillion dollars? Cheapest price I've found is US$89 somewhere online. I may bite the bullet and pay it, so the disc doesn't ruin in the post.

They really should re-release them on cd. The Kollected Works are going for $89.99 on amazon.

I don't know how to use a record player, I probably would have by now if my Dad let me get one when I wanted one...

And how do you know what needle to buy?

Plus I'm always listening to music on my ipod, anyways, almost never use cd's any more. But I still love having the cd's, as backup copies of my music, and well...the cover.

Have you looked for the record locally? I just saw two LP copies this weekend at a place in Hagerstown, MD. A Google search for record stores in Nashville shows plenty of prospects. Grimey's looks like the kind of place that might have it.

Now the CD is definitely harder to find. I finally found a used copy when I was living in Dallas, TX, but it took weeks of revisiting CD stores and continually checking their 'new arrival' bins. I'd try this before I'd pay $90.

By the way, I'm also reluctant to order LPs (or even CDs) in this scorching summer heat. That would really suck to order records and have them warp in transit.

I think Stewart had mentioned something last year on here about considering re-releasing his Klark Kent stuff. I wonder if he's thinking of putting it on iTunes.

An Itunes release would be great. I'm so glad I got my copy of the cd when it first came out!

But don't give up hope of finding it...a friend of mine once found her copy in a discount bin for a dollar or two!

But I want a box set, with a pretty cover, nice shiney book... that's so much better then itunes.

I'm with you on the shine, MG. Hubster recently bought a Cars box set and it's purple metallic, like a car finish. Neat stuff.

Funny you'd mention Grimey's Records, PB...my hub is pretty good friends with the owner. I had already called him and they don't have KK, but I bet I can get him to order it. So I think that's what I'll do.

I have a setup I can use to record old vinyl to CD, using an M-Audio Mobile preamp, a program called Audio Hijack, and my trusty Macintosh G5 (plus a turntable, natch). I do that every now and then to dump stuff onto my IPod - lately I digitized a whole bunch of old out of print Residents records for a freakout mix for a friend. That said, I do like to listen to original vinyl. The tone depth and range is so much better than digitized audio, if you're lucky enough to have a good set of speakers.

I always see the CD on Ebay and the auction usually ends at fifty dollars or so. If you don't have it yet, get it! It's a very freespirited album.
