Police Around the World @ The Police Station

Police Around the World @ The Police Station

Postby Joey Connelly on 22 Jul 2006 21:41

Since the early stages of The Police Station's design, I had wanted to make "Police Around the World" available (in its entirety) in the Video section. I know a good bit of the newer Police fans haven't seen this MOST EXCELLENT film (unlike some of us dinosaurs who bought it on RCA VideoDisc a hundred years ago *wink*), and I've had some requests for it.

I'd like to make this happen, and since the film is long out of print (with no signs of being released on DVD), I'd like to think that getting permission would be fairly possible.

So the question is, does anyone know who holds the copyright on this and could give the necessary permission?

What's a video disc? Was that before beta?

I get a feeling either Gio or Mr. Gradenko will answer this one.

I have it on VHS, but we no longer own a VHS player.

Give me a min to dig it up, it might say who owns the copyright.

It dosen't exactly say, but isn't it IRS Video? So Miles' company?

It was a vinyl record that was used for video, with the content being recorded on both sides. (Like LaserDisc, you'd have to flip it over.)

On the most recent version (which is the LaserDisc), it's indicated as being an I.R.S. Video release with Miles as the executive producer, and Kate & Derek Burbidge as producers. I'm just not sure if ownership of the copyrights have been transferred or not over the years.

I'm thinking Miles would keep control of it. Try asking him at the Police forum.

Police forum login?

Postby Divemistress of the Dark on 24 Jul 2006 17:56

I tried to register for the forums at officialpolicesite.com, but no luck securing a verifying email. I don't seem to be able to get one, so I can't verify my email address and complete my registration.

Anyone got the 411?

Be careful

Postby giovanni on 24 Jul 2006 19:02

Always be veeeery careful about copyrights infringements....Stewart and I are very very careful about everything we put on line on audio or video (he doesn't feel like having trouble on this issue, even if he is the author...there is always a publisher that wouldn't care that much and would do possible actions against it).

Right on, Giovanni.

Although not part of the music industry, I've dealt with publishers a lot over the years on my gaming site (www.TheJadedGamer.net), and it's quite a mixed bag as to how they will react to certain things made available online. Some are incredibly supportive and easy going, while others get bent out of shape over the slightest things. One certainly has to tread carefully.

But back to the topic at hand...

Miles "put on the red light" in regards to an online presentation of 'Police Around the World', but said that the film would be reissued on DVD: http://www.thepolicestation.net/forums/ ... topic=19.0.

Great to hear it, Joey !!!
I have a very good copy of ATW on DVD (from the japanese laser disc), but it would be better to have an official version, with extra bonus as "The Police In The East" BBC documentary, for example !!!
A lot of footages of this documentary were used in ATW, so it would be a good thing to make up the numbers !...
For example, Driven To Tears live in Athens (an excellent early version !) and Bring On The Night in Hong Kong don't feature in ATW, and some of the interviews of each member of The Police are very interesting too.
Fingers crossed !!!

Yeah, I'm hoping for some bonus footage too. I know there's a lot of it around, and it would be fantastic to see a lot of it added to a ATW reissue.

Can't wait!
