I've always felt they should make it more difficult for people to get married in general, so that they'll think twice (or more times) before jumping in. I don't think people have realistic expectations when they enter into these legally binding agreements. People criticize that gay marriage makes a mockery of the institution, but there are plenty of straight couples who are making an even bigger mockery of the institution. Instead of giving tax breaks to married couples with kids, there should be a penalty tax for getting married and having kids since we need more infrastucture in place to support them, especially with the population bursting at the seems. And they should use the funds to pay for the therapy that often is needed, especially for the children who become pawns in the games that separated couple to try to get even with each other when a relationship crashes and burns. They should make people take a personality test and take some sort of educational course and speak to counselors, since marriage requires a license certificate. They should make it like you are getting a driver's license.

People need to realize that marriage is something that brings about consequences with a ripple effect

10 Reasons Why Gay Marriage is Wrong

01) Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.

02) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

03) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

04) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.

05) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Britany Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.

06) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.

07) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

0 Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.

09) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.

10) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

Don't you think Mrs. Gradenko, your previous confessions are out of topic?..

I was pretty sure this was the thread where we were discussing gay marriage, didn't feel like double checking.

I just thought that was cool, and didn't think I should make it it's own thread.

I believe the state should officially recognize my marriage to "Be My Girl" Sally. If they do, I will get a hefty tax break and Sally will qualify for insurance in case she snags on a barbed wire or gets too close to the stove. And if you think I'm a pervert, then you're a hate-filled polymerphobe, or an individual who fears inflatable love.

I think a lot of people get married because they think that's what you're supposed to do, or they want the big wedding, which is a total crock. You could put a nice downpayment on a house you can live in for a lifetime for what you can spend on a wedding that lasts one day. NUTS!

As for gay marriage, this country is about freedom and granting individual liberties. This proposal to amend the constitution to ban gay marriage is absolutely abhorent to me. I couldn't care less what gay people do in the bedroom or otherwise, and I hope they never propose to ban the things that I do, not that what I do is all that exciting.

"Mild mannered supermen are held in kryptonite,
And the wise and foolish virgins giggle with their bodies glowing
Bright."

I have that song stuck in my head. :P
