about the elder Johnny Sex Pistols!!!

I'm a brit punk rock muso snob

But I also do like the early American stuff. But I loose interest when it's starts morphing from punk to hardcore. Plus the politcal edge that the English bands has is a big plus in my book. You just didn't get that with the Ramones, Blondie, Television, The Dead Boys, etc.

But Blank Generation is probably one of the greatest punk songs ever.

Oh, thats' why, usually I enjoy more "fun and anger" attitude and less fashion-oriented.
But the two documentaries...I can't remember English titles right now, but at least one has been mentioned here...about Sex Pistols and Clash are great!

My favorite british punk rock record is probably "Damned damned damned"; Ramones, Real Kids, DMZ, Pagans and (a bit less) Angry Samoans are probably the ones that's been spinning more often on my stereo.
But actually most of all I like the Stooges and sixties garage punk.

Are are some good docs on DVD

The Pistols - The Filth and the Fury
The Clash - Westway to the World
Punk in general - Punk: Attitude (great Don Letts doc but it sort of skips the mid to late 80s).
Joe Strummer - Let's Rock Again and the new one is about to come out - The Future is Unwritten.
There was no need for a second Pistols album. They did it all in one. I can't think of any other band that released one album, called it a day, and had that much influence on music. The album may sound tame by todays punk standards but then again - there wouldn't be any punk standards without that album.
Very well said, Duke.
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

I'm finding this thread more and more interesting each time I read it. I'd have to say that I am also a bit of brit punk rock snob myself but that would be second to my first interest with that of my local Vancouver punk rock scene during its later stages.
Some notable spawn from the Vancouver punk scene were none other than our very own D.O.A. (still kicking), The Young Canadians (early Art Bergman), SNFU, The Skulls, and dozens of others including some band from Victoria (can't remember their name - all girl band) that opened for the Clash January 31st 1979 at the debut of their North American shows. 8)

Do you know anything about the Diodes? They were from Canada. Are they worth checking out?

I don't know anything about the Diodes, Duke but I'll check my archives. Years ago the printer I worked for produced the liner notes for a huge compilation CD of local Vancouver bands titled "Last Call". An absolute must-have for anyone interested in the Vancouver local/independent music scene. More later on that one.

The first two are those I saw, the others...I cannot identify for now! I'll do some research.

Actually in Italy I believe you can be an american punk rock snob, not so much of a Brit punk snob, since this here has always been more known...

Duke, talk about the motherload! Thanks for the links.

I saw the Clash in '82 at Shea stadium in NY. They opened for the Who and blew my doors off. Always loved the Clash. I also remember when the Pistols took off and the album came out. They were like a car wreck on the die of the road that you couldn't take your eyes off. Then they were gone.

As far as all the new Playschool Punk bands out there, they don't move me at all. Something about them doesn't sit right with me. I guarantee, they all have stylists to tell them what to wear and how to look and act. Taking Back A Chemical Fallout Boy....it's all the same shit to me. Maybe I'm an old fart. If the Clash could magically reunite today, they'd reduce them to rubble.
I will say this about Green Day, I liked Dookie. Start to finish, it holds up.

So this thread turns more punky... well is good, by the way Stewart sent a lovely message reply to Johnny into a chilean press interview... with good vibes obviously.

about punk scene... uhmm I like some of The Clash stuff, also some Ramones, KK obviously, and some of the Sex Pistols too... I am not a hard punk fan...

for your interest I tell you some about the punk scene here in Lima.... some tolds about a primitive punk (pre-punk) from a middle or later 60's rock band from Lima called "The Saicos"... some years ago ( I mean in the last nineties ) "Saicos" album was remastered and sell in UK and they were considered some primigenious punk band... well I am not sure, cause I never heard... next after the brit punk wave arrives in Lima... and democracy turns legal in Peru... appears some local punk bands in Lima.... they are called underground bands... some of those bands are "Leusemia", "Narcosis", "Erupto Maldonado", and lot of names... punk movement in Lima never died and continue with new bands like "100 voltios", "Diazepunk", "Dale vuelta", "Q.E.P.D. Carreño" and a large etc....

Obviously "The Police" nfluence into the latin american rock scene is giant... the reason "The Police" is a three piece band that fussion rock with different rythms...and you know people from Latin America are open to fussioned everything come from any corner of the world and richness it with great rythm.... Police inluences are remarkable on reputated latin american rock bands like:

"Soda Stereo", "G.I.T", "Los Pericos", "Fabulosos Cadillacs" (from argentina), "Prisioneros", "La Ley" and "Gondwana" (from Chile), "Paralamas do successso" and "Skank" (from Brazil), "Mana" (from Mexico), "Miki Gonzales", "Zen", "Arena Hash" (from Peru), "Juanes" (from Colombia)...well lot names I am not remember and others I forget...

It is my understanding that Stewart is in The Filth and the Fury. Anyone seen this? What does the movie depict him doing?

I have a copy, I'll try to watch it in the next few days and report back.

Excellent! I'm gonna run out and buy some of this stuff. I do have some Juanes records already...

There's some really good Aussie punk that's worth looking into also. I'm a fairly huge Radio Birdman fan, myself...(plus I hear they may be back in the U.S. with the Hoodoo Gurus soon, a thought that fills me with great joy...)

Vancouver / Rotten / Clash Connection

"Vancouver’s first punk rock band was The Furies, a three piece with original songs and the appropriate attitude. They played only a few gigs and broke up in the fall of 1977.
With the demise of The Furies, drummer Jim Walker flew to London, England with the idea of getting in a band with Johnny Rotten. A year later, Jim was the drummer in Rotten’s group, Public Image Limited, going on to play on the band’s first single and album." (from the liner notes of Last Call)
The Furies played with a band from Victoria, Dee Dee and the Dishrags. Although the Furies were short lived, Dee Dee and her all-gal band went on to open for The clash on their 1979 North American Debut. On a dare, The Dishrags encored their set with The Clash’s London’s Burning; The Clash dedicated their version right back at them.
