Clash-definitely my second favorite band.

I totally put GD into the McPunk category years ago and didn't give them another listen until after American Idiot was out a while. Someone whose taste I greatly admire turned me on to them, and I gotta agree with Dive, though maybe not quite as strongly. They have definitely matured into an amazing band.

PATD & FOB? My girls LOVE them. And I gotta admit they are witty and got talent. But punk? nah. Just cause Pete Wentz wears eyeliner, doesn't make him a punk for pity's sake.
But the melodies are catchy and the lyrics are great. Reminds me of the Buzzcocks a bit- and I used to think they were punks.

I have to admit that I never could get into the Clash. I like a few tunes, but just never felt like they lived up to the rep. I'm going to have to go back and re-listen. I do dig the Pistols and some PIL though. I don't love Green Day, but I respect how hard they're working.

[The one time I had the chance to see PIL perform, the bastards didn't play because Lydon didn't like the way the stage barrier was set up. (Source: John McGeoch, as he was getting fresh.) Did get to see Big Audio Dynamite -- but honestly, they were just terrible. The band that kicked everyone's ass that night was Blind Melon -- before anyone had ever heard of them.]

To be honest they are annoying to my ears. I haven't heard any recent bands that have made me really take notice in a long time. Most recent band that did that was probably Clap Your Hands Say Yeah when the released their first album.

The Clash and the Police are my two favorite bands. Period. However, I have been on a serious clash kick lately.

And then there's other stuff like Latino Rockabilly War, and Joe and the Mescaleros.

I got no problem with Green Day. I love Dirnts (sp?) bass playing.

Only saw PIL live once (on a bill with the SugarCubes and New Order) and they were *fantastic* at that show...I've always liked Green Day ever since a friend of mine picked up a DIY cooked up cassette of theirs in Berkelely before I had ever heard of them and thought they were interesting...

And I have to say I know of Fallout Boy but I don't think I have a sense of their music or sound...I have always stayed away from the what's punk or what's not debates, who knows? It used to function just as a way for fans to divide themselves internally to sort out the punks from the poseurs which gets as far away from the music as anything <giggle> But then that same thing happened in circles of those who followed the Dead, including an entire taxonomy to categorize fans from Family to Weekend-Wariors, to Touch-Heads (those who just joined in after "Touch of Grey") and about ten shades in between: it was as ridiculous and stupid as it sounds. <grin>

What is being marketed as 'punk' nowadays is a far cry from what I knew as punk (second wave/American punk/hardcore) but then again the the genres mean something else today at the same time subgenres just keep expanding to the more and more specific (next: North Alaskan Scream Death Metal!). What marketers and promoters choose as the genre or category for the store display etc. really shouldn't reflect on the band (and we all see the limitations of the categorical sort, like when Shonen Knife ends up in "World Music" because they're Japanese). Todays punk includes what might have been Modern Rock yesterday (a category that is pretty much all but disappeared/subsumed into what has become "Alternative")...

I never can decide which I like better - London Calling or Sandinista. That's a tough one. Usually depends on mood. Here's a link to one of my favorite shows of theirs. Great quality.....

Pretty sure the links were lifted from Satch's clash forum. Almost all are liberated bootlegs (screw the folks selling them). I'm for anything that takes money from those dolts selling what they don't own. I could've posted the direct link to the site (it was set up seperate from Satch's )but there's some offical album torrents on it and I believe in paying for offical releases.

Some sound like they were record by someone standing in the parking lot with a hand held tape recorder. Some a very good and some are soundboard.

For starters I'd suggest the Bond's show I posted a link to.

The Agora in Cleveland is a kick ass show.

If anyone is interested I can post the shows that I've downloaded that sound good.

Wish we could do something like this with Police boots but I think their lawyers would go on the warpath. Bunch o' cunts lawyers are

I rarely listen to studio stuff. Sooooo much better live with the improvs and what not. I'm pretty picky though about quality. That Bonds show I posted the link to sounds like an offical release.

From Here to Eternity is great. If that White Man In Hammersmith Palais doesn't get you up shaking your bones - you're not human.

City of the Dead is smoking too. Armagideon Time is sick and Striaght to Hell is, as always, the mad heady note

It's easily in my top three fav live albums - the other two being The Police Live and Stiff Little Fingers Hanx.
