Birmingham & London personal reviews

Birmingham & London personal reviews

Postby Xavier on 12 Sep 2007 22:33

Back at home after 2 concerts in Birmingham and 1 in London, I´d like to share with you what I´ve seen. I was in Vancouver and Edmonton last May and, after 3 months on the road, the show is much better now. I mean, the good parts: Message, Moon, Can´t stand, Roxanne, So lonely, Andy´s solo on Driven to tears and World running down have improved a lot and are the most brilliant parts of the show.

Even the weakest songs, Don´t stand, De do do do, are few better now, although I keep on thinking they don´t deserve to be in a Police set list. At least Don´t stand sounds closer to the original now.

I think we all miss Bed´s too big and it´s not worth the change with Hole in my life. Truth hits is still too slow, the boys should play this song faster!!!

I was speaking with a crew member and it seems Bring on the night will not appear during the tour. They have been trying different keys and tempos and nothing seems to convince them to play that song. I wonder why they don´play it just like the original one!

I enjoyed the show much more in an arena than in a stadium, but, on the contrary of what I thought when I saw the stadium concert in Edmonton, I have to recognize that the show fits well in a stadium now with a very good lights work.

To all of you who are going to see the band during the following weeks, enjoy your concerts. Next stop for me, the 8th: Barcelona!!!

Xavier.

my personal opinion:

TRUTH HITS EVERYBODY is perfect as it is!
If they would ruin every other song and play a good version of TRUTH then it was worth the money!

THE BED'S TOO BIG... always loved that song live - but not 2007 as it was played too fast

so I'm OK with HOLE IN MY LIFE instead

(everything is said with the understanding that it was ALL brilliant)

enjoyed hearing 'Truth Hits..', even at a slower speed, i was surrounded by people joining in with the "woah-ahs"...

'next to you' was brilliant, noisy and fast..... hilarious seeing andy staying on stage and starting on his own... although he did look a bit like a bewildered pensioner! until he started the raucus rifferama....

'de do do do' ... you could tell they weren't sure of how to end it as they all turned to each other and were trying desperately to hear what each other was doing... sting missed the end a little and ended by working his way up the fretboard with a smile on his face and andy laughing and pointing... and i'm sure sting asked andy what key he was in!

intro to "every little thing" was interesting played by andy; i barely recognised the song til sting joined in with the distinctive bass line... he looked to be enjoying it as he waved his arm to let the crowd take lines on their / our own...

'hole in my life' worked for me, with sting singing 'hit the road, jack, don't cha come back no more...'.... referencing the rolling stones, whereas at the ancient Hatfield gig he sings some beatles 'i'm watching a hole where the rain gets in...'.. not sure about having a solo in that tune though, as it lost some of its' urgency and syncopation for me.

'next to you' was brilliant, noisy and fast.....[/quote] - Stewart finally gets to play as loud and as fast as he wants.

Thanks for the song breakdown. Glad you enjoyed the concert.
