ES:TPIO Japan Edition/ Gio's notes translated

So, ther's Gio's liner notes translated in Japanese in the booklet attached to "Everyone Stares/ the Police Inside Out" DVD.
I tried re-translation into English.

*******Production Note / Sundnce Debut 2006*******
by Giovanni Pollastri

In the screen of "Everyone Stares / The Police Inside Out", everyone can see the golden age of the Police, from inside the group, from Stewart's point of view.
That legendary rock band "the Police" conquered the charts all over the world, the great success was made in the very short period; 1978~1984.
Stewart Copeland filmed everything that came into his eyes, during the tour, at the studios, at the backstage & onstage. However, the 8mm-footage has long been kept; 20 years in the depth of his bookshelf at his house. The time has passed and the new technologies of computers & softwares revived this material.
Stewart has spent most of the times on which scenes to pick up among the huge amount of the footage, and finally, a simple musical documentary of the band is born.
On January 19, 2006, at the Sundance Film Festival, the documentary made its debut to the world.
Unlike the ordinary films, there's no lines for the actors to read, there's a raw & real life. The audience witnesses an unknown band named the Police; emerged, spent tough days around USA in an old van & slept in tiny motels, then how rapidly they reached the top of the world as the celebrities touring on private jets staying at gorgeous hotels.
The frenzy after the UK live show, the very first meeting with the A&M-executive at Manhattan, the very first press conference in LA, studio in Holland, recording session at the Montserrat, the festival in Europe to promote "Reggatta de Blanc" "Zenyatta Mondatta"--- onstage & offstage, Stewart shoots.
The Police on the road, the Police in private, the whole Police is there captured by Stewart's very personal point of view. That means, while watching the movie, YOU can be Stewart.
The sound track includes unreleased live materials and studio recordings. These dangerously-driving "crazy"(as Stewart himself says) sounds are so unusual that you'd never get from the official history of the Police's activities; and therefore, these would be a surprise gift from Stewart for the longtime collectors of the band. The well-known Police's tunes are made "crazier" by the drummer of the band Stewart, with a fresh air of new arrangements. It's astonishing that the bass line of "Can't Stand Losing You" is mixed with the vocal of another part from the same tune. Another example, the vocal line of "Don't Stand so Close to Me" is mixed with the backing tracks at the recording session of "Zenyatta Mondatta".
Yes, everyone who stares the movie can be Stewart himself, the man who's running at top speed again.

Thanks for the translation. Much better than a lot of translations you see out there. This reminds me of the episode of News Radio where Jimmy James' book on business is a big hit in Japan when translated into Japanese. So they decide to release the book in the US again, but this time translating the Japanese version back into English. The result is a book called "Super Karate Death Monkey."

Another odd translation story, once a record company translated the lyrics to one of Elvis Costello's albums into Japanese for its Japanese liner notes and then the company decided to have the Japanese translation translated back into English for the English release. This resulted in the following lyric "How come you treat me like a one eyed Jew."
(The correct lyric is "How come you treat me like a worn out shoe")
There is no bigger gong.

EQ>>>lt is a book called "Super Karate Death Monkey.<<<
EQ>>>How come you treat me like a one eyed Jew.<<<

:!:    :?:
The latter one seems that someone took notes by ear....
and this reminds me.....
In my old Ghost in The Machine album, there were some "misheard" lyrics printed , one of them is:
from Demolition Man
" I'm working with the man passing over the roof "
what's that???? and they translated this line into Japanese....
also
" I'm a real live whip "

It really is
" I'm a walking nightmare, arsenal of doom "
" I'm a three line whip "
how could they.......
