You know, I think it really isn't worth worrying about. SC is eminently quoteable, even out of context, and I'm sure sting's been called worse (and not always in jest). In the absence of fist fights on stage, or paramedics being called to recussitate anyone after an encore, the press are bound to scratch around for whatever nonsense they can find. The fact that they're quoting our guy months later rather suggests that things are going pretty well, don't you think?

I totally agree about the press needing to move on.

I am a journalism major and I hate the way the press has been treating the tour. It's aggrevating.

I attended the concert at Churchill Downs, Louisville, KY, and as an avid concert attender, that was one of the best shows I had [i]ever[/i] been to. Seriously!! So, if the press want to have their fun, it doesn't mean I necessarily listen to them.

My roommate attended the concert with me. Going in, she knew one song by The Police ("Every Breath You Take"), now, she owns every album and has started picking up the solo work of the guys. The concert totally charged her into The Police fandom. She, who is also an avid concert atendee, also commented that although she knew one song, it was the best time she's ever had at a show.

Amazing, how the press thinks one way...but those who strip away the red tape of journalism see it clearly.

BTW, I'm new here! I've been a fan of The Police for years, and an even bigger fan of Stewart Copeland. It's good to be here.

This is an OLD question. In 1978, a war exploded between Pete Townshend and the then 20 yr. old Paul Weller, who claimed that the formed could NOT sing My Generation with the line "Hope I die before I get old" at the ripe old age of 33.

The funny thing is, he managed to send Pete into the deepest crisis: he wrote editorials to all magazines, started to believe that he was old, and, of course, like in all respected band there was the NO BULLSHIT guy (Roger) who said: Who is this guy and what has he accomplished? We are the 'OO! We'll be rocking in our rocking chairs.
Needless to say, Roger was right.
The issue is, making or performing good music is NOT a privilege of the young. There are so many shitty young artists that prove this, and that are only products of a savvy marketing campaign.

According to Harald FrankenFucker, B.B. King maybe should commit suicide... I suggest a heavy dose of watching the Clapton Chicago guitar summit (not to mention a Police concert) before writing such bull, that, ifv printed, it would have one use - in your toilet if you're out of paper.

EQ! Ciao! I had the most horrifying morning (working to meet a deadline since 5AM).

As a teen, I cried and ripped reviews of critics who deadpanned my favorite artist. At a certain point, I grew up and wondered who is a "so-called critic". Answer: only a frustrated artist who could not muster a 1000th of what the shittiest musician has accomplished and preaches from his pulpit, not stating that his is a mere opinion and is worth as much as anyone else's, but believing, and making people believe, that His Words Are The Absolute Truth. A bit like the scam preachers.

You don't know how many times I have had to suppress the chair-throwing instinct with my group of friends, who won't go to see a movie that has not received the Thumbs Up of Roeper (Who Are Fucking YOU?)
I am so tempted to write him an email telling him where to place said thumb....

Why? You are not OT, this thread is about critics and their antics. At least Ebert was old-style and kind of seemed to have an opinion, not to simply state without question that 99% of the movies are shite and the French documentary with Polish subtitles that nobody watches is the only movie worth seeing.

I shudder at the thought of Roeper reviewing ES....
We should do a thread about "how many movies you have seen just because SC composed the score"....
