Exclusive Cd's for The Krypton Store???

Postby dontboxmein on 21 Aug 2007 15:43

Stewart,

How bout releasing some exclusive cd's for the store? They do not have be sold in large units. They can be home made jobs, if need be? The Anthology was a taste and it has wet our appetite for more.

A whole complete Gizmo cd would be first on order. We all would buy anything you release.

I did buy the New Anthology, but some fans did not get a full ten new songs.

Slither has already been released ...on "From Rumblefish To Gridlocke'd.
Bill Is Dead ..Was on "The Pallbearer" Movie Sound Track.

Which I obtain.

Just a suggestion, when you get off The Road maybe you can go through your vault and dig up some new material we have never heard. And make it exclusively available to this site, or you can tell me to kiss off.

To the fans of SC...(Let's try to keep this post near the top, so it will be one of the first posts he reads). And please comment and tell him how you feel as well. I know I am not alone in my thinking.
and if sometimes i can't seem to talk you know this blackborad lacks a piece of chalk

Small runs of high quality CD pressings are so easy and inexpensive these days, something like this could be *easily* accomplished. :D

You know what I'd love to have? In any form? The derangements from Everyone Stares. THAT would be great. I wonder if that's possible...

Yes, but remember a lot of it is the matter of securing all the rights for a release. Even a "home made" job.

There are about a zillion unreleased soundtrack pieces that would be nice to have, although I'm sure it'd be a Gordian thicket to get the rights to 'em....

Neither of which is still commercially available. So meh. It's an anthology -- stuff will be repeated. Plus, I think it's interesting to see familiar material in the context of SC's overall oeuvre (such as Oysterhead in the middle of the ST materials).

I love the idea of limited edition, high quality, small press albums (although in a certain way, because SC has a pretty niche audience, they're all limited edition, high quality, small press albums. Although while I'd encourage small label pressings, I don't know about "home made" jobs.). But like sockii and DD said, rights are problematic for much of the material. SC himself has said that rights are problematic. Hence the absence of an official release of derangements as well.

But SC has been quite generous about sharing obscure stuff through the Copeland Vault for free (which notably skirts that rights problem a bit). DBMI, you might want to ask around for folks who still have some of the older material from the vaults.

And of course, I wouldn't discourage some new material in the online vault . . . Plus, there is all that KK material gathering dust in a shoebox somewhere . . . And I too am on the list of folks hoping for a Gizmo CD . . .

But I'm thinking that it's going to be a while. SC's got that freelance gig going on and all.
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

This could be done the way Crowded House does it.
I think SC retains all publishing from his stuff. To release an outtake from one of the films he has worked on would seem to be easily legally accomplished. Even "Wall Street" contained a Rhythmatist outtake. If he hadn't of resurfaced that one it would have been in this vault of his maybe forever.

If it's strictly Stewart Copeland material, it would be a lot easier than say, something like The Derangements (which we'll probably never see). His own archived material should be pretty darn easy to release.

...As long as no one else was involved in the recording of a piece, maybe.

But, for instance, I remember the question coming up once about if/whether "Holy Blood & Crescent Moon" could ever be released, and he said the problem there was that no one thought to secure recording/subsequent broadcast rights/whatever from all the orchestral players/singers/etc at the time. So not only would each of those individuals have to agree to it, a big factor would be even tracking down some of them in the first place!

>Giovanni said NO. NEVER. AUGH!

...ehm...I didn't say no....well, I reported what I know...ehehe.

Anyway, we had a sort of 'unreleased cd' a couple of years ago more or less, when we opened the multimedia section, we uploaded about 12/13 songs never released, and we can even call it an album of unreleased Stewart stuff.
That was up to Stewart, I mean, he decided to send us the tracks to be uploaded, stuff taken from the vault; let's simply hope he will give us some stuff again, and for what I know, he got lots of unreleased tracks on his vault; I'm sure that next year something will come out again on our multimedia section, but that's up to Stewart; we just provide the platform...
It could be a good idea to have a cd exclusive to the website, but it would lead to copyright issues that sometimes it's difficult to deal with.
Having some of these tracks uploaded can also lead us to face some legal problems, but in the past Stewart and I decided we would go on and see, crossing our fingers that nobody would come and tell us something about.
While Stewart is on tour, I see it very difficult to work on some new audio uploads; Gizmo is still an under construction project and it can be considered too early to upload stuff that wouldn't give the exact idea of the complete project.

But let me work on it....(and don't tell the director I said so...).

Thank you, Giovanni,
I got from your previous answer that is was a case of :"Lasciate ogni speranza, o voi ch'entrate..."
It is always good to get a glimmer of hope. And, you never know, he might be always be composing new stuff (Regret Symphony, anyone).

Copyright is a jungle - it's part of my work, and it's a real drag for passionate fans as we are - but the Internet"S" laws are very much a grey area...
All we have to do is hope.
BTW, if you see Il Maestro in Europe, could you whisper in his ear "There is a huge demand for gigs on the West Coast?????" :?: :?: :?:

Hey, WestCoasters, I am doing everything I can!
