Who would you wait out in the rain for?

Postby jedsoon on 20 Aug 2007 18:56

I did have an encounter with a legend, but only had to wait about ten minutes or so.

In 2001, after his first concert in Greensboro in 27 years, we found his limo all warmed up and ready to whisk him away. I was amazed by the car itself, with its blue interior lighting and champagne bottles at the ready. The faithful huddled around the vehicle, hoping for a glimpse of His Soul Powerness.

Finally, James Brown emerged from the building with his lady vocalist. To my surprise, rather than simply escape us mere mortals, he actually stopped to shake a few hands before he got into the car. I watched as he shook each person's hand waiting in front of me. I just knew he was going to pass me by, since his path was going to bring him closer to the car door than to me. Unbelievably, he managed to greet and thank a few folks more, and i was one of the lucky ones. I couldn't believe i was looking at him face to face and had to look down to make sure it was *his* hand i was actually shaking!
If I would wait out in the rain for someone it wouldn't really mean that much because I live in the rain .

But at 106 F I would wait for

the Police
U2
Oh yes, those are the only two bands I would wait for!

Others...

Ella Fitzgerald (she's more of an icon than just musician...would love to talk to her for an hour or so!)

C.S. Lewis (would need several hours)

Rowan Atkinson (*sigh*)

Hugh Laurie

Emma Thompson

Johnny Carson

Roald Dahl

and of course, just Stewart...

P.S. Mrs. Gradenko, NOW I do understand why you like Elijah Wood. No one over 30 would like him.
I've got a bit over a decade to go, but I'm sure I'll still like him then. Unless he turns to Scientology too. And is it just me or do guys get better looking with time? Well some.

"Ray ban" bans rays from your eyes. I should have recognized that, although the first thing that poped into my head was sunblock...

Shy vix...Excellent list...only...Keanu Reeves? Well, like I said, whatever floats your boat, girl...At least he is easy on the eyes...

Mrs. Gradenko, I am trying to get you to put back OrangeStewart as avatar...I know you like Elijah (and he is pretty smart and not a former Seminar Catholic boy, so he won't convert to Scientology), but sure he has his web site?????
Whenever I look at him I always remember the serial killer with the impenetrable RayBans and the prostitutes' heads lined in his bathroom in Sin City...

Whenever I look at EW, I think of Kevin Smith's version of how Return of the King should have ended in his second Evening with Kevin Smith disc (Evening Harder). Can't describe it on a family forum like this.

I love Keanu Reeves. I think he is a wonderful actor (watch him with Cate Blanchett in The Gift). I respect the choices he makes in what parts to play (he turned down Speed 2 to play Hamlet on stage, smart move). I respect the low key way he lives his life, he does not do things that will land him on the cover of US Weekly or Star Magazine. I think he gets slammed in the media for abosolutely no good reason.

You like Tom Cruise. He's not my cup of tea but I support your right to be a fan of his work.

You're an intelligent, sensitive person and if you like KR there is nothing wrong. They blast me all the time for liking TC, so I know what it's like.

Genesis? Really? Early or late? I liked Phil when I was little, but the Peter era was better, even then I've grown out of them.

Ok orange Stewart it is.

Mrs. Equalizer ADORES Keanu. But I guess it's pretty obvious that she has horrible taste in men.

Also, she told me yesterday that she likes only one Police song - EBYT. We're like oil and water. That's why I love her.

As an aside, we were watching the Equalizer last night. She DOES like the theme song.

I like different songs throughout all phases, some Gabriel, some 4 man with Hackett, sometimes later, depends what mood I'm in.

I can't wait in the rain - I have naturally curly hair & I would look terrible! :)

however, i would leap thru some serious hoops for:
U2 (esp bono or larry)
dave grohl
andy

i can't think of anyone else right now. i have met both bill clinton & al gore, so i consider that TWO presidents.

the joke is that my photo with bill clinton was SO BAD that no one has ever seen it. seriously. not even my mom.

as for actors, i have met/seen in person most that i find interesting. if i like someone or want to meet them, i usually figure out a way to end up on set for work. i desperately wanted to be at the original U2/ipod video shoot but it was in london, dammit. i still need to meet josh homme but since we have some mutual friends i am biding my time on that one.

personally, the actors/musicians/creatives i like the best are usually the more unusual ones (i.e. not the HUGE stars) and the creatives behind the scenes - i.e. i love meeting directors. i met one of my favorite directors a few weeks ago & while i was busy been blown away by his mere presence, he said "oh i have heard all about you, erin."

HUH? yeah, color me stupified.
