In Spring 1978 when Outlandos' d'amour was recorded, Stew also played a set with Brian James of the Damned. This was also recorded at Surrey Sound, although most of it never saw the light of day.

Here are 2 tracks for Stewart collector's from these sessions...really outstanding drumming, but overall, not very good songs. Stick them in your collections and play them now and then....320K

I had no idea that SC collaborated with BJ. The Damned is one of my top 3 favorite punk groups and BJ was one of the reasons their early songs were good. It looks like they recorded 3 more as well, after looking into it :

"Ain't That A Shame"/"Living In Sin" & "I Can Make You Cry"

Anyone got any mp3s of those? What other collaborations was SC a part of in the late 70s?

Yeah, thanks for making these available! I, too, have these on vinyl but it's been so long since I've had a record player, I don't think I've heard them since the 80s. I'm a big fan of those early Damned albums and of course Stewart is my favorite drummer. If there's more than these two tracks floating around, I'd love to get my hands on them.

Thanks for sharing these. I agree, the songs themselves are fairly forgettable, but there's not mistaking that drumming. Too bad it's so buried in the mix, especially Why Why Why.

Brian James is a great guy! He can still play with such intensity and as he touches the guitar you can easily say he got it in his blood!

I worked with him to promote the Lords Of The New Church tour and releases about three years ago, as well as promoting his latest cd released last year. Great tracks! He rocks!

A very nice person and a friendly guy! We talked about Stewart and he's very happy about his success, he admires him a lot!

Especially for those that owned them and just don't have to worry about transferring them now.

Its not enjoyable to me, but it is always great to hear SC play with anybody anywhere. Video Magic is like that for me. The LP is Mostly Andy and Sting in my opinion. Most of the drumming is handled by the german guy (I dont want to go get the LP to find his name)...but the songs Stew plays on like Trans Am and Natural High are outstanding from a drumming stand point but the songwriting is weak. I suppose that is why Eberhard never really made it farther than Germany?

This single wasn't recorded at Surrey Sound, rather Matrix Studios as printed on the back of the sleeve.
I think it's rather negotiable whether it was recorded in '78 too, due to Stewarts drum sound and the kick/hi-hat technique part on the B Side being very similar to the sound of "Flexible Strategies", which was the B-side of "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" in '81. This would tie in well with the release date of "Why? Why? Why?" as it was released in '82.
