My aunt used to work in theater in New York and DC as a dresser, so as a kid I used to get backstage to meet theater folks every so often. It could be amusing. She was dressing James Earl Jones' wife in a production of Othello they were doing together once, and I was like 10 years old at the time so all I could keep thinking was OH MY GOD IT'S DARTH VADER!!!

Met a lot of scifi actors at conventions. The Babylon 5 are notorious bar flies. It's rare you ever see any of them make it to Sunday signings and panels without a hangover...

I used to work in a motion picture equipment rental company and have had many run-ins with famous peeps. One morning I showed up for work after sitting in hours of traffic and was in a real cranky mood. The lone elevator had one of those doors that opened and closed real fast, the "better be quick and jump in and don't get your arm caught in it" kind. Well, the door was about to close and in my grumpy state, I yelled, "hold that fucking door!". A hand held the door, it opened and standing there was Dustin Hoffman. I walked in the elevator and almost shit myself. After my initial shock, I smiled and said, "good morning". He looked at me and said to have the same. I think I must have scared the shit out of him.

I had a ton of these kind of celeb sightings while working there.

"Hold that fucking door!"

Love it. I'm going to say that all the time, now....for any reason I see fit.

I've been looking for a G in the wrong shop...made a recent purchase after deciding to start playing again after a 32 year hiatus…gave it up when I was 12 after 4 yrs of lessons with a teacher that was nuts…if I had to play the “Red River Valley” one more @#$% time OMG…unfortunately I didn’t have the insight to ask Mom to get me a new teacher…I was burned out.

...Anyway this sighting is once again another reason it sucks to be on the East coast this week.

As far as celeb run-ins, while in Seattle on business, ran into Eddie Vedder going into a music shop and exchanged pleasantries, another time I was enjoying a street musician near the Pike Street market and Adam Arkin was there with one of his kids. During a trip to Washington met and chatted with John McCain while lobbying on Capital Hill. Met John BonJovi and the band backstage around 1980 (vague “bad girl” memories…I was pretty wasted at the time). There have been various sports figures as well…

Aside from the initial Police sightings earlier this year in Vancouver there is always your run of the mill "celebrity" sightings up here in Hollywood North like Richard Dean Anderson (laugh it up, everyone else does!), Sarah McLachlan, Joey "Shithead" Keithly (D.O.A. frontman, local punk rocker). I did see Jello Biafra one evening many moons ago back stage at Club Soda. We just finished opening for a band called The Wongs (SNFU singer Chai Pig's band) and more memorable than that was our band's van getting towed and trying to get it out of impound at 4am :D

I sat in front of Debbie Gibson at a Chris Botti concert. I thought she looked familiar and I talked to her several times because I switched seats so she could sit with friends or something. I didn't know where I knew her from and I almost asked her if she'd gone to the Sting show in Paris. But I didn't. It was only later, reading a review that spoke of the famous folk who had been at the show, that the lightbulb went on.

I've seen a number of famous people, oddly enough associated with Sting or now Police shows. Oh, and Jeremy Piven is stalking me, I'm sure of it.

Yeah...I lived in D.C. for ten years and now live in Nashville, so most of my sightings are too prosaic to mention (walking down the street behind Madeleine Albright, sharing the salad bar with George Jones...I live down the street from Al Gore, more or less...) I do have a couple doozies, but I'll save 'em for a fan get-together sometime....

Oh, this would be too long to remember all the sightings (I never ever approached anybody, always acted as a Manhattanite to leave them in peace)...
I remember seeing Chris Robinson and Kate Hudson at a Steve Winwood concert at the NY Bowery Ballroom not long ago: they were sitting at a table on the balcony and I had been standing on the floor below squished for 4 hours and I hated them!
George Lucas driving by our Toyota in his blue BMW (he lives close by, so no biggie).
Santana in the parking lot at Whole Foods, standing and watching me and my hubby getting in an accident with another car...I saw him again in Macy's jewelry dept with his wife and daughter, trying everything he could to be incoscpicuous..
Dave Matthews buyng pizzas for all his entourage at Milano's restaurant near Sausalito.. I was at the table with friends and here comes this guy and I whisper to my friend "That IS Dave Matthews!" She went, nah, would he buy a pile of pizzas himself? Everybody was convinced only after the waitress and the cashier asked for his autograph and shaked his hand!
I prolly mentioned that I saw Sting close up in a West End pub, we were both at the bar a couple of people apart. I was amazed at how people left him in peace, this was I think 1981.

My former life as a professional fundraiser brought me into close contact with many celebrities, many of whom I got to work and travel side-by-side with on committees for international events. It was particularly thrilling to meet Jordan's Queen Noor, Former First Lady Betty Ford, Gregory Peck (as charming and debonair in real life as he was in film!) and George Burns (a relentless flirt!!).

Before we moved to the country, I lived in Manhattan for some time, and used to see Woody Allen frequently enough that it probably made him nervous! I met Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins after their young son plowed into me on rollerblades...they were incredibly nice and I saw them often after that as we all enjoyed the same neighborhood park.

One of my favorite celebrity "encounters" was actually a non-encounter with Jackson Browne in LaGuardia Airport. I was getting coffee before my flight, and there he was next to me at the cashier. We made eye contact and my face must've registered recognition, but I just smiled like a cool New Yorker and went to sit at a nearby table. Well, there weren't many places to sit, and he came and asked did I mind if he took a seat. We talked a little and I got to tell him how much I enjoyed his music over the years...but mostly I remember feeling pleased with myself for not giving off a crazy fan vibe that would've scared him away.
