David Lee Roth's Police Bashing

Diamond Dave was great in the late 70s early 80s. He had an unbelievable stage presence, for those who have seen the band live. (I never liked Sammy Hagar anyway, they say his Cabo Wabo Tequila is good, and he should maybe stick to producing it). In 1984 VH sold out 4ever. Diamond Dave went literally bonkers (remember how he embarrassed the others in front of the TV cameras in occasion of another attempt at a reunion?).
DD had been long F.R.I.E.D., but even so, I don't think he was bashing the Police. He was just putting the emphasis on the differences between the two bands, and in a way, showed where the umpteenth reunion idea came from...

DD played a show here in Vegas a number of years back. There were very few people in the crowd but he was still acting like he was playing to a sold out RFK. It was HILARIOUS! Hard to explain; you had to be there.

No, Eq, I would have not...too sad for words. I saw VH at the top of their glory and can assure you that the man was on fire (on coke, on brandy, whatever, but the Show / one of their best songs at the time / was unbelievable).
I also had one of his solo albums where he played with Greg Bissonette (other great ficking drummer, too easily forgotten these times) and I think Billy Sheehan, SkyScraper and I really loved it.

The really funny thing is that Dave, as has been his pattern for a long time, is once again setting himself up to be a laughing stock.

Based on his comments, in order to be thought of as successful, Van Halen will have to complete a tour that's comparable in success to the Poolice tour (good luck, Diamond Dave) AND THEN do an album of new material with Van Halen, AND THEN have it sell well.

I mean, these things are possible. My money is on the side of them not even finishing the fucking tour.

Dave's comparison to the Police does say something, though: that we were right about other bands using the Police as a benchmark and proof that a tour of a long-disbanded group can be tremendously popular. The crucial mistake, though, is thinking that they'll be able to replicate what's gone on with the Police. I highly doubt it, and I might have to chortle with evil intent when they end up having the press conference to cancel the rmaining dates after the inevitable freak-out.

Sorry you don't like him. He is very good, compared to the crap that is around today.
No drummer compares with Stewart, because his style is unique.

Clarification. By "mean" I mean "good." I think Stewart was quoted as saying during the period where he essentialy stopped playing drums for a number of years (pre-Oysterhead), he liked the work of Greg because he thought Greg was better at playing like Stewart Copeland than he was himself (presumably meaning, better at that time given that he was so out of practice).

I watched the press conference on youtube and I sincerely think that 'Diamond' Dave wanted only to specify they are back to do new stuff, beyond touring, they have already decided they will do a new album, and this is the difference with The Police; nothing wrong with it.

It's just rock n' roll banter guys, it's how it should be. However Lee Roth, you have no right to slag off a proper original band (apart from EVH tapping genius). VH are shite in my opinion. Too many cheesy smiles. Lee Roth's claim to fame as mentioned above is quite literally being a cicus clown, voice not original and is known for doing moves that I've seen 6 month kickboxing students do a better job. The bloke is a complete knob. I heard he became a paramedic after VH. Nice for doing it Dave but isn't kind of weird. Surely a guy in his position would be able to raise loads of money for charity to help 1000's instead of a few. Not knocking it DLR, just questioning it.
