Stewart, Andy, and David Rasner

Stewart, Andy, and David Rasner

Postby TheEqualizer on 10 Aug 2007 16:49

On another post, there is discussion of so called reunions where not all of the original members are playing (VH and Led Zep). This got me thinking.

Lets suppose that Sting's lute CD became a woldwide sensation. Triple platinum. Spawning new lute bands everywhere. Billboard starts a new chart just for lute albums. Thus, Sting never calls Stewart and Andy for this tour.

However, Stewart and Andy, after ES and One Train Later, start getting nostalgic and want to play Police songs together again. So they decide to do it. They won't call themselves the Police; they can't call themselves Rush Hour due to lawsuits by Jackie Chan and Neil Peart.

Regardless, they call up David Rasner. It would be a total Mark Wahlberg/Rock Star situation. As you know, David plays bass and sings for Fallout.

What would you think about this? Too cheesy? I don't know. I'm thinking it would be reallly cool. It would be essentially Andy and Stewart in control of the Police sound and setlist (no limitations from Sting). Imagine, a setlist that includes Mother, Darkness, Omegaman, Bombs Away, etc. On top of that, unless I'm mistaken, I think that David might be better at reaching the high notes on songs like Bring on the Night and Don't Stand, so all the key changes might not be necessary. Would anyone really be missing Stingo's bass playing that much?

I'm a guy, eliminating seeing Sting on stage in his ripped shirt is no concern for me. But I was wondering what you guys would think about something like this. And what would you call the group.

Sting might be too busy getting ready to appear on The Singing Fucking Bee

I'd see Stewart and Andy with Elmo as a third member if given the chance. It's the same concept as Led Zep or Van Halen.
I have seen Sting. I have had a cold whiff of the Pouting Stingness. Retaining the image and the memory of the 1984 voice is enough for me.

So Stewart and Andy could play together post-tour. The Question is: DO THEY WANT TO?
:?:

I wouldn't think that they play together after this tour. This was their chance to get all of it out of their systems. They would now be able to go back and do their own thing. Another killer Oysterhead album. A reunion with Robert Fripp, but maybe this time having Tony Levin on bass and Chad Wackerman on drums.

Poor Stingo...now we are searching for replacements?.

Well, I only want to see THESE three guys doing Police tunes.

..but of course after this tour if Andy and Stewart started a band with another guy I would freaking love it. The Police will always be first for me but if they wanted to keep working and Sting said no...then why not start a band.

Who would it be? I dunno but it would have to be a totally different vibe.

Joe Sumner would be awesome...but...Police vibe...he would hate me for even suggesting it. Sorry Joe...you rock !

maybe Stanley Clarke on bass and Coco Sumner on vocals and acoustic.

Yea that would be weird...I like it.

Can never replace Stingo...ever! He is awesome, no matter what anyone says. I have renewed respect for him and will always be grateful for bringing the boys back to my city...four times!

as Stewart says...Sting is my guy !

Cheers Y'all

I don't think either Stewart or Andy would WANT to do this, otherwise, they would have done it years ago. I personally think it would be sort of pathetic - like the remaining guys from CCR who are currently playing the casino circuit as Creedance Clearwater Revisited.

As far as "Andy and Stewart in control of the Police sound", don't you think Sting's vocals are as much a part of the Police sound as the rhythm section and guitar?

I also highly doubt they would even approach half the success this tour has had - there's no way Stewart, Andy and "some guy" would be selling out Giants Stadium, etc. It's the POLICE people want to see, and without Sting there ain't no Police. It would be the same if Sting and Andy toured with another drummer. No thanks.

I'd be cool with this as long as they are playing Sesame St. material.

Seriously, it would be awesome if those two would tour together without Sting. Because then we could hear some hear some cool back catalog shizzit.

Ms. Gradenko, anyone?

Andy should tour with Gizmo.

Max. I would agree that I tour like I proposed would be lucky to get 1/10th of the attention as this tour has. It pains me to concede this, but Sting is a huge draw regarding the general public.

However, I think for nuts like us on this forum, I would suspect that more of us would rather see a Stewart and Andy tour than a Sting and Andy tour. Let me rephrase. A Stewart and Andy show would be better musicly than Sting and Andy (even if maybe Vine were the drummer).

Sting is a huge draw to real Police fans. I bought Dream of the Blue Turtles when it first came out, out of curiosity, and then completely ignored his solo stuff ever since. But put him back with the Police and I'll pay top dollar. The three of them together have something no one else can replace. I'm not interested in hearing anyone else sing those songs, just as I'm not interested in hearing another guitarist or drummer play on them. I suspect I'm not alone.

I would call it cheesy and unacceptable band

Sorry sweetie  8) :D but I love all three if Andy and Stewart did form a band I would want them to do their own songs not Police and create their own sound.

Oo-oo, I ve been awaitng the apprearance of Omegeman & Mother-would strokeoutandfallover for DARKNESS!!! Yeah, and what about 'Oh My God'?

Here's a 'game I've occassionally played in my head while listening to the Synchronicity CD w/ headphones during work:
When you get to "Mother", just replace Mr.Sting singing 'my mother' w/ 'Stewart Copeland' and 'mother' alone w/ 'Copeland' . I was lame enough to laugh so hard out loud that our library regulars were giving ME the shush look    !!!!!
Just a something for Friday.
