Have any of you seen Roth perform recently?

Man, he looks like some freakish hybrid between Carol Channing and the scarecrow from "Wizard of Oz". Either that, or he fell into a vat at the botox plant. He had all the mobility of Marvin the Robot from "Hitchhiker's Guide". And I think his Vegasization isn't going to help the matters when it comes time for the actual shows.

The great era of Roth actually ended before his original VH tenure. He was at least entertaining as a performer through 1983 or so. By the time they became "the band who does Jump", he was already a caricature of his former self.

I still think the tour, if it actually happens and plays for the scheduled dates, will be a success. I just don't think it'll be very good. I could be totally wrong, so as always... your mileage may vary.

Throwing two cents in the ring, I have to say that the boy can definitely write an entertaining story - his a/b, Crazy from the Heat, lights up the tops of my lists -

Sammy & Michael are touring because I heard on the radio yesterday that they will be in Indy in October. I saw Sammy in concert about 4 years ago & he was really fun & did a good job. Believe it or not Dave is from Indiana but people here are more apt to claim John Mellencamp instead.

I really wanted to see the original VH, but like The Police first time around I was young and VH tickets sold out quickly back in the day so I never saw them during the prime Roth years.

I saw the 5150 tour with Sammy. It was a good show. I even caught Eddie's pick when he threw it to me during Eruption (true story).

The problem with this tour is...

They have gone back and forth too many times, promising a tour with Roth, then Eddie and Dave would clash egos and it would cancel. I was really excited the first time they announced a reunion tour a few years ago. Then they blew it. I believe they have done this a few times right?And oh the mistakes in the past, Gary the Extreme singer? PLEASE! What a bomb that was eh?

Michael Anthony is not at all a talented bass player, BUT he works hard to put on an entertaning show. Whatever happened between Ed and Michael is BS. Eddie needs to frickin grow up and realize he is about to become a big has-been in everyone's eyes if he doesn't get his personal sh%t together and start treating people around him better. It's a tragic situation. He's such an amazing guitarist, but is such an arse and a control freak.

Tickets will not sell well unless it is all four original members, and each of the four would need to have a great attitude towards each other and could prove that in press conferences and interviews pre-tour. They need to earn the true VH fans' trust back if you ask me.

All that being said, I might buy a balcony seat (for $40 max so I don't make too big an investment then get disappointed) just to see if Roth, Alex and Eddie have an ounce of magic left.

I know it won't even come close to The Police tour. Not in Eddie's wildest dreams. Sorry.

Be that as it may, Mike's background vocals are an essential part of the VH sound. His absence will be highly notable as a result.

I saw them way back in Toronto with Roth (Diver Down or Unchained tour?) it was Fucking Awesome ! It was my second fav show after The Police picnic at the CNE here.

I haven't followed them much after Roth left. I thought they went just a bit too poppy for me...Hagar is great but they should have changed the name of the band...Van Hagar would have been cool.

I would love to rock to the original Van Halen but...they ain't all there ?!!

I was googling Eddie to see what up now a days and Yikes! Whats going on? I have seen Roth doing his bluegrass thing ( don't kill me I like some bluegrass...no Ganja jokes eh?) I have always liked him even though he always smiles like a crazy guy...for no reason.

Do any of you know what the deal with them, I read that Wolfie has been playing bass for less than a year? Eddie better sober up.

If I was Roth I don't know how much I confidence I would have in a 16 year old amateur bass player.

Doen't it make you LOVE the members of The Police even MORE !

Eddie went into rehab (again) in March. According to reports, he's sober again for now. Before that, he was really fucked up.

Wolfie has only recently taken up bass, but he's been playing guitar for probably 5-6 years now. His dad says he's good. I'd imagine he would be. He's 16 years old now.

I just hope they will come to Europe (and Italy) as well.

I like them a lot, I know they won't be as they used to be, but you never know how surprising artists can be...and their early repertoire was such an amazing one!
I like the Hagar-era as well and saw them a few times, but to have Eddie and 'Diamond' Dave together on stage again...that's the event!
