Drummer Question..what type of brand do you play?

My kit is/was made by a now defunct manufacturer in Vancouver called Tempus Drums. Essentially the shells are made from a fiber glass type material and the hardware is all Pearl components. They mount via a collar lock system. I have a mishmash of cymbal and hi-hat stands by Pearl and Tama and a set of 4 custom made tube drums (identical to the low pitch long octobans) by Ayotte Drums - cost a bloody fortune to have made but it was the 80's age of decadence. Man, I love playing with my toys!

Mine is an oldish Tama Rockstar DX kit from 94. If money were no object it'd be a Starclassic Maple in Royal Walnut- I already have the snare, just need the rest! Only with shallower depths- 8x10, 9x12, 10x13, 14x16, and a 14x20 kick.
My cymbals I am happy with- all Zildjians, mix of A, A Custom, and Z custom with the hats being a pair of Sabian's as the odd ball. I'd love some Paiste though, a set of Rudes would ROCK.

I play Premier drums. The set I have is from the early 80's and is built like a brick shit house. There was a time when Premier drums were really in a class unto themselves. They fell out of sorts for a while in the 90's but in the last few years, the company is really turning it around and producing quality drums. To me, they are very English in design with a distinct sound, attention to detail and were really built to last. The chrome is the same that is used on Rolls Royce autos.

1990 TAMA Superstars with mostly Paiste cymbals, TAMA Octo's and Mini-Tymp drums.

If I had money I would get the Starclassic ...is that the maple one?. I don't look at them much because it hurts me deeply. My old Superstars are still solid as a rock...so I cannot justify it. I would like a nice green/seafoam blend...it's so nice.

and also a really small kit, y'know very portable for little gigs n jammin, I think Slingerland has them...I haven't checked....same reason as above. Poorness.

...and I would like to have as many Paiste cymbals as SpecA has Zildjians!

I have a custom kit made from Keller maple shells- It has a 18 x24 kick that sounds amazing. I also play a Stewart Copeland Signature Snare of course! If money was no object, I would buy a Tama Starclassic Maple kit or maybe a DW Collector's series set.

I have tried all types of drums had an endorsement with a drum co. and I can truly say nothing beats D.W. Drums they have the best tone of any drum I have ever played.


My kit is from the early 90's when every shell was hand made and went through the inspection of Mr. Craviotto.

You will not find a better sounding set of drums. I have had so many people offer me big bucks for my set, but it will never be for sale.

I also play all K Zildjian and A Custom models I really favor the "Oriental Line" as well.

I love Paiste Signature cymbals, but the endurance level plays a key factor as to why I do not play them.

I'm playing mostly jazz these days(sorry Stew, I know how you feel about jazz) and I was lucky enough to come into a beautifully preserved 4 piece mid-sixties Slingerland silver sparkle set. Been playing that for about 7 years now along with my vintage Zildjian K Istanbul's and a couple different snares in the arsenal.

If I was going to invest in a new set, which I hope to do in the next year, probably the Tama Starclassic Performers in either the Blue Galaxy Fade or Red Sparkle Fade.

DW's are sweet..... But there's just something about the Tama Starclassic Maples that I love.

I like the avatar Vince. The next time you see that SNL 'cowbell' skit watch right at the end of that part when Ferrell is tapping the cowbell in his face(who plays the singer?), they do that little fake 'fight' and I could swear Will Ferrell catches the singer in the face with his stick pretty hard.

I would be afraid to damage a classic set. My red TAMA superstars are scratched up...mostly by other dorks in the club...but they are great. I love TAMA...I read way back that Stewart responded to how strong they were...all the stands etc. That is what I was looking for when I was 20...something that will last...and they did, they'll outlast me.

Always loved Buddy Rich and how he made that little kit sing.

Oh believe me BB, I would never get rid of my Slingerland's. I'd only be looking to add another kit. The Slingerland kit is a classic and I've kept it in perfect condition, but everytime I take it out for a gig, I get a little paranoid about the "outside forces" that I have no control over that can take it's toll on a vintage kit. One thing about playing in the city though is Philly is now smoke free, nice to not have that shit on my drums or me.
