Andy, Stewart & ?

Postby TheEqualizer on 31 Jul 2007 13:55

Time for a little fantasy. Lets suppose after this tour, Andy and Stewart enjoyed playing with each other that they wanted to continue to play with each other and even record a new album. But Sting doesn't want to part of the project as he wants to do an oboe album.

Who would you most want to see play bass with Andy and Stewart on this new project? Keep in mind, I'm not saying that this would be a new Police; just an Andy and Stewart project. For the purposes of this post, lets exclude Stanley Clarke and Les Claypool.

Also, who would you like to hear on vocals?

Derek Smalls on bass would be a good fit.

I don't like the drummer fatality rate that accompanies that collaboration  !

Oh shit. Take my Derek Smalls suggestion back. Totally forgot about the "drummer" thing.

Danny Partridge.

Or Lemmy from Motorhead (one of my all time favorite quotes came from Lemmy after Sid Vicious asked him help him with his bass playing. Sid said, "I can't play." Lemmy replied, "I know.").

Well that is easy either:

Tony Lewis on bass/vocals...The Outfield

Mark King on bass/vocals...Level 42

Colin Moulding on bass/vocals...XTC

Andy Partridge could even play bass w/vocals...XTC
and if sometimes i can't seem to talk you know this blackborad lacks a piece of chalk

Les Claypool

Edit: I've never heard Gio play but I'll vote for him too :D

My votes would go to Flea, Tony Levin, and Gary Wallis. I have no idea regarding vocals. You can replace Stingo on bass but he's a tough act to follow vocally.

Anthony Jackson- Michael Camilio Trio- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXT07AnkYRE Turn it up or wear some headphones! It's long but well worth it (his solo is around the 5 mins mark), El Negro is bad ass in that too- check out the left foot cowbell action!

PNut from 311 would be fun

Geddy Lee- RUSH

JPJ

Paul McCartney

Vocals? Dee Synder? Shatner? I'm not too sure.

I go with Tony Levin also. What about no vocals, and just an instrumental album? Or soundtrack? What would be a cool upcoming movie for them to work on after the tour?

No, no, no, no, no!

I enjoyed Oysterhead as much as the next guy, but you don't want to stick a super busy bass player in front of Stewart. It really fucks up the focus you have on the drumming. And poor Andy! Can you even imagine Andy playing next to a reanimated John Entwhistle? He'd get buried.

I think someone extremely talented but a little more reserved and tasty would do the trick. Ummmm... Pino Palladino, perhaps?
