Flag Idea -- Can I get your thoughts?

Postby Rhianntp on 27 Jul 2007 23:12

P.S. anyone know where I might get a flag? I'd love to have one on my car antenna or something hehe... maybe someone can make flags and sell them to us and use the money for the same charity? :D

I'd love a wind sock and tie it to the antenna on my car!

Just a quick update so everyone knows where things stand:

I put a call in to Live4Life today, only to learn that the person who can get the ball rolling is on vacation 'til August 6th. So, while I applaud everyone's eagerness to get started...I feel the same...we just need to sit tight a little longer.

I'll post further details about how best to contribute as soon as we are set up as a designated fund.

Thanks!!

Sounds good, Nancy! Actually that timing seems perfect to me, considering Aug 5 is the last date of the US Summer leg, and the Euro dates don't start until September...that give us August to devote attention to getting the charity drive started without worrying where the flag is each night, ya know?

I'll be working Dragon*Con over Labor Day weekend in Atlanta, one of the biggest media/scifi/etc cons in the U.S., and I'm already planning on doing a little fundraising there for the Alzheimer's Walk I participate in. If things all come together I can try to pimp for the flag fundraising as well...

Thanks for the update, Nancy. The tour has a ways to go, so there's no need for us to rush.

Whether for charity or no, the Krypton Store would certainly do well selling flags. People have mentioned wanting one ever since Vancouver.
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

And I would definitely love to wear a t-shirt that are the same colors and design like the flag, with the White Rhythmatist logo on the front. On the back, I think it would be great to have also in white lettering information about the Leroy Coolbreeze fund, perhaps a link to whatever the final website may be making donations. And of course if we get the t-shirt made as such where all proceeds from selling them would go to it as well. Wouldn't it be great if we could somehow work it out that we could sell them at all the shows on the second leg of the North American tour??!!!

This is an utterly brilliant idea.

I'm not sure about the tour sales, but having green t-shirts with white logos and the charity url on them is fantastic. Some of us have experience with Cafe Press, which would make doing it pretty straightforward. We'd have to get permission to use the Rhythmatist logo, though, and make sure to follow all applicable intellectual property law.

I can think of several folks who would buy shirts to support the combination of good music and an honorable cause.

Con, I think it's a lovely idea in theory, but selling anything -- whether or not for charity -- with the SC logo would officially put us outside our purview.

I think the intentions are wonderful, but reality must dictate the boundaries within which we must act. It is Stewart's business to decide what he endorses and how his identity is created and displayed through his name, his logo, etc. We have to be very careful not to let our good intentions interfere with his (for lack of a better description) "corporate identity."

This is a beautiful and incredible *fan* effort, but we have to be careful about our place. We're a group of people brought together thanks to SC.net. But we must always remember that we do not speak FOR SC.net. That's Giovanni's and Stewart's department. If they come up with something similar or are willing to do something similar, great -- that's what the Krypton Store is for. But that's their business. Literally.

Well, drats, I always seem to block out the corporate aspects of these things when I'm thinking along these lines. I can't help it. It's the Aquarian in me (we tend to be humanitarians who try to see the big picture and not the little flaws). Anyway, while I'm thinking along these lines, I know that Live Earth thing is kind of the charity of choice on the tour, I would love to see a Live4Life charity show comprised of however many former IRS bands they can get (including our boys, of course) for a show with the proceeds going to Live4life to honor Ian's memory and help bring back the spirit of that era at the same time It probably would never happen, but I can certainly dream, can't I?

Thanks, Dive and smudge.

EQ, as Nancy has said, the contact person at L4L has been on vacation until this week. (And those of us doing the legwork have had some busy weeks as well.) Once arrangements have been made, we will let you all know.

Thanks, everyone.
