Is this true???

Postby Skip on 27 Jul 2007 14:02

I'm trying so hard to contain myself, but it's DIFFICULT!
I can't focus on my work, I've developed a strange pacing habit- what's wrong with me?
I blame this all on my lovely mum, who on August 10th 1983 feared for her youngest son's safety and wouldn't let me go see my favorite band at Sullivan Stadium. "You can see them next time" she said - - well it's "Next Time" and I"M A LITTLE EXCITED!
Okay..breathe like DM said...In...Out...In ...Out.
Okay I'm okay now.

I never put this in my long "Holy Crap" post about the concert, but I actually got a tummy ache I was so nervous. I kept thinking something was going to go wrong with the tickets or the sitter or I'd get run over by a bus outside the stadium. I just couldn't believe it was really happening. And then the tummy ache, was like when people say "inch me" so that they know something is real. I knew I was really at experiencing the moment cause I could feel it in my gut.

Advice from someone who saw the miracle and the Second Coming, The Police Live.
Do not attempt any serious work at your place of employment 24 to 48 hours prior to showtime, it's impossible. Remember when the lights go down and you hear the Gong you may never be at this place again, go for it, go crazy. Give yourself 24 to 48 hours post concert recovery time. Plan on doing nothing serious, allow plenty of time to listen to Police music to re-live the experience, look for postings of photos and comments on your show, begin daydreaming of how to possibly get to go to another show if you have no tickets bought for future shows. And then...back to reality :(

Fortunately, I had scheduled a half day only at work, since I had an 1hr 45min drive to The Show. Enough time to shower up/wash hair ( after all these years NO WAY going to breathe air w/ Stewart & the Guys w/ less than fresh clean hair). After meeting up w/ the couple who were also attending , we grabed a bite-a lot of healthy starches negate necessity breaks, oh and I don't drink so that helped-, another 15+ mins. at local pilot pre-WW2 watering hole w/ cool biplane photos to distract-no panic yet. Steady breeze starts to move the hot, tad humid air, nice since route to Churchill Downs is beginning to slow up-"wow! Are ALL these folks going to see the Police TOO?!?", my friend's boyfriend exclaimed. A pleasant 4 block walk, still calm but distraction starting, friends saying"hey slow down where's the race"....the line for-T-SHIRTS!!! 2 ohmygoodness of them-glad I'd saved all that cash! NOW trying not fidget as friends get into lo-on-nggg-ggg alchohol line( 1 h2o for me-again poyyt strategy here). FInding out who around you saw Them back then and how far did they drive....Suddenly the evening is beginning to fall, a giant spot lights up, roar of almost 30,000-what gong?
And that's when it all really starts.
Enjoy yer ride, full tilt, stand in your seat and let Them know how good the music sounds & how much Thank You we fans can give back.
And if your REALLY lucky you can wait out the traffiic in a Kentucky-style country kareoke bar w/ the local folks to help keep the excitement alive.
Best wishes, safe travels, and ENJOY!!!!!! :D

This is why I didn't sleep for like 3 nights straight before the Whiskey show. I was just so wired. And then it took me another 2-3 days to come down after that (and I'm not sure I actually ever did completely...)

I was excited before the fan club show, of course. We had been there practically all day waiting for one thing or another. When they came out for their little pre-show talk I shook my head and blink a couple of times. I couldn't believe that was the moment . It was actually them. There had been so much waiting and anticipation. I think I turned to DM and said, "Kel, it's them! Oh my god! It's really them!" Or something similar.

At that point, we didn't know where the gong figured into the mix. But, when Stewart came out and hit that baby the place when apeshit!
Good times!

The day or so before every show I remember thinking, "Ok don't get hit by a bus or something now. You paid ALOT for that ticket and you gotta hear Stewart blow the roof off the joint!" :D
Stewart and Stanley together again!! YO!

I kept the butterflies at bay by keeping myself busy with a friend's wedding the day before. The day of the concert I went into sort of a state of denial that anything exciting was happening until I got to the Pepsi Center. And then -  :o :D :D :D

You're going to have a great time Lisa! Just enjoy the moment.

For some reason I was drawn to this site after a way long absence. :P I have been reading old posts for a shamefully long time for a Friday night. This one in particular still makes me giddy. I can clearly remember and almost feel that excited/butterfly feeling. Has it really been almost 5 years? I want a do over. And not only to make me 5 years younger. Best. Years. Ever.

*sigh*

Sorry for the new thread. I can't contain myself anymore. Great, now I think I am going to cry. UGH!!!!!

I'm really enjoying all these old threads.

And I really get this:

My mother wouldn't let me see them in 1983 either. And the next time? Damn. I don't know why I missed the reunion tour. I guess it wasn't a priority for me then, for those ticket prices. But now I wish like hell that I had been there.
