One Train Later is more enjoyable for me because of the humor. Andy's great wit and dry humor are what makes the book work so well (along with his great musical history). I am actually hosting a reading session at the high school I teach at for One Train Later this fall. Kids have signed up and they had to have read it this summer so we can meet and discuss during the session.

Sting's Broken Music was enjoyable also, but a lot more deeply(and tragically) written on the personal issues of he and his parents. The hallucinating part in the middle of the jungle somewhere was pretty out there as well.

I liked them both - they were unique - but the winner hands down is Uncle Ian's Wild Thing. The dude really was the coolbreeze. We miss you bro!

So far, I've only read Sting's book.. It was ok, but I felt sometimes Sting was too much in love with his prose. I remember his description of a men's restroom 'smelling of urine and sadness' - what??? What does sadness smell like exactly? Whatever he smelled, I don't think it was 'sadness'. Apart from a few bumps like that, I enjoyed the book. I got some insight into the man and I feel more understanding toward him.

Andy's book is next and I'm looking forward to it even more after your reviews. Then on to Ian's book.

Wild Thing is the one closer to my heart, I had not mentioned it because it was between the 2 Police books, but it is certainly the more "real".

Have to say Andy wins this one he had a far more interesting life then Sting's

I had a bad taste in my mouth finding out he cheated on his 1st wife :evil:

Have not read Stingo's book...can anyone give me a really brief overview, like is it his childhood?, early Police...solo ?

I have no idea...now that's he's back to the STING I had always dug...maybe I should get it.

I like prose...I like creative writing like that line you guys are making fun of, I think it's like his lyrics. I guess it's just me.

I liked the completeness of Andy's book; lots of interesting rock history and tidbits you never knew about him. It is so true what they say about the quiet ones. I also liked that he didn't gloss over the time with the Police and seemed quite frank about what went on.

Sting's book is interesting and I think it is well written. It is a more introspective book but I found it interesting because you could see the seeds of some songs that were planted way back. Note that there are a couple of songs with some sort of love triangle (consider his solo work, too) and in reading his book you learn where he first witnessed that and how destructive it can be.

No Police fan should be without either book. Or Ian's book, or Stewart's movie. It would be fantastic if they got together on a book like U2 did with their "U2 by U2" book. Such a huge story they made it a coffee table book, not handy for subway reading. But cool nonetheless.
