I'm planning to attend both shows. So if you need need someone to take the flag after the Dublin show from Giovanni and hand it over to phaty in Mannheim... just e-mail me.
Mail delivery time from Ireland to Germany might be a bit difficult in this case.[/quote]

SUN! That would be wonderful!

Your profile doesn't have an email address! Can you send an email to me please???
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

That'll never happen I'm afraid GSC!! I think I may have been singlehandedly responsible for getting that website blocked at the place I work....not surprising.

A couple of changes to the Flag Schedule:

Thanks to the wonderful Sun, the Flag is going to be able to make its Dublin date. THANK YOU, SUN!

In addition, Georgygirl will be taking the Flag in Monterrey, visions in Melbourne, and mtobinjones in Wellington. (Auckland is likely as well, but I'm going to wait til the details are fleshed out to confirm.)

ETA: I almost forgot -- Copelandos_damour might represent for us in Sweden.

Lastly, sockii will be taking over the Flag-Waving Duties at Fenway II thanks to vespapod's recent drinking of the Kool-Aid.

This list is starting to turn into something truly frightening.

THANK YOU EVERYONE!

Not to let vespapod be one, either. Even if he has been drinking the Kool-Aid.

Dave.... You only have to scroll up one or two to see it is only the melbourne gig taken so far....

And if that helps go right back to the beginning of the thread for the rules......

If you pass them..... then send DM an email....

Bit concerned tho.....

The flag bearers need to be nearly super human...... Can't you speed read?!!

Seriously, Dave -- the schedule is right above your post. Might have bit you in the face if it were any closer. :P

BTW, Welcome, DrummerDave!

VINCE FLAMACUE! I got your email. Will reply soon. Will be a bit of a complication, so be prepared.

EUROPEANS: There have been a few tweaks of the European Flag Schedule of late (those involved have been emailed). Before I post and email the whole damn shebang again, I'm going to wait for confirmation on Sweden. But in the meantime, if anyone has any questions, send an email.

Dirty Martini,
How about having the flag at the Guitar Center appearance on August 16? We could get pics of Stewart with the flag. I thought that kalypso would be the most appropriate person to be the flag bearer there, but if she is unwilling, I would volunteer.

Stewart might be too temped to take it off us before it's ready!!

Do we want him that close?

HOWEVER... I think that's a lovely idea if possible....

Imagine his face!!!

Now that my friends would be a picture!!!

Sorry, guys, but I've got to be Flag Angel of Death on this one. No can do. I understand why people would want to get the Flag to the Guitar Center (and similar places), but doing so would create a number of large problems (in no particular order):

1. The Flag isn't ready yet. The Flag will be far more impressive to Stewart if he sees it as a (finished) full-side of names from all over the world rather than a partly finished product. (The tour is only two months in; it hasn't even gotten to Europe yet.) In addition this thing should be presented to Stewart after it has been carefully repaired and has a fresh coat of paint -- not when it's mangled and cracking and looks like crap. (Moeskido, as the person who made it, deserves to have it presented to Stewart in the best form possible.)

2. It's mixing apples and oranges. We've been dragging this Flag to arenas and stadiums around because it's an eye-catching way for Stewart to be reminded that, amongst that massive sea of 40,000 faceless people in front of him, there is one person in that audience who is proud to be there to support him. And that one person is representative of a whole community. In a concert crowd it is the only way to "communicate" to Stewart. In a one-on-one situation, you don't need a flag to be seen or to show your support; you're right there to do and say such a thing face-to-face. Which links to . . .

3. It sets a (bad) precedent. As soon as the Flag attends an event other than a concert, people will want it to show up at every event. It simply cannot happen. As it stands it's impossible to get the Flag to all of the tour dates. Stewart doesn't live in a bubble, and the tour has many months ahead of it; everyone and their mother will pop up wanting to bring the Flag to X or Y because Stewart might be there. (Don't think they haven't already.) In addition to the fact that the Flag would have no reason to be in attendance, there would be no end to the bitching if Person A got to take it to X, but Person B didn't get to take it to Y. Which then leads into the fact that . . .

4. It turns the Monster into a full-blown Nightmare. With every show it becomes increasingly difficult to manage this project. Many Flag-Bearers have had to sneak off to illicit places, hide in dark corners, and flat-out lie to people because Everyone wants to sign the Flag. The more that people notice it at concerts and talk about it on other boards, the harder it becomes to fend non-SC people off -- and there is simply not enough room on the Flag for that many signatures. We have no choice but to be hard-assed about it and to limit it to SC.netters.

But if a picture of Stewart with the Flag popped up on the net -- and it would -- the jobs of the Flag-Bearers would get 100 times worse, my email box would be stuffed beyond capacity, and the Flag would be at a much higher risk of getting ripped off because people would then see the Flag as a way to meet Stewart. (Think about it: most people don't bid on the Water Aid auctions because it's charitable; they do it to meet the band. In the Water Aid case, at least there's a positive bonus that comes out of it. In our case, it would be nothing but detrimental.)

Stewart has been extraordinarily generous about acknowledging the people in the audience who have the Flag -- and it has become a kind of game in a way, with him searching the audience for it and us leaving him clues on where to look. That's a fun bonus that has evolved over time. But that's not why we're there. That's not why we're spending money out of our pockets and rearranging our plans and lives to accommodate this project. The purpose of the Flag has been for us to show our support to HIM. The Flag is not a means for people to get into Stewart's space, and honestly it shouldn't be -- because that completely negates everything we're doing.

This project has become way too important to too many people. We need to stay focused on our original plans, on why we're doing it and how to best keep it safe. Otherwise we risk watching the whole thing fall apart before it reaches the end of its journey.
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

DM

I wholeheartily agree with everything you have said.......

the flag can't be everywhere and I'd hate the thought of it geting lost/damaged or anything like that!!

And I really like the thought of our cat and mouse or hide and seek game we're playing at the moment.....

Can Stewart find the flag today? (The big hint should help.....)

I suppose when the tour ends those who weren't able to sign it could have it mailed to them or something?

DM you are the flag master and your word is law.... (and you somehow manage to control us and all our crazy flag notions!!!!!)
