I guess to me it means yet another way just to keep Ian's spirit strong and with those of us who "knew" him in some way -- whether it was in "real life" or "just" on-line. Though I never had the chance to meet him in person, I won't ever forget the first exchanges I had with him on (and later off) AUI, and the way he made us all feel like family there, sending unexpected goodies in the mail and just generally being one of the main reasons I became reinvigorated in my involvement in this fandom in the first place. There are a lot of us who feel strongly that in some way he has had something to do with bringing this tour together in the first place, and deserves to be remembered for all that he gave to us.

I think Stewart would be touched if he saw them like he does the flag. I'm sure fans in the audience would ask about the shirt and it would be great to tell other fans about him if they didn't already know who he was and what it all meant and that it would touch the other fans who knew of Ian.

All good points to consider, for sure. Conroy I think nailed it in that so many people out there don't realize that the success of the Police was made in many ways by the folks behind the scenes. Many people might recognize Miles, Ian, & Kim's faces, but probably not the major impact they had on the Police as well as the music scene. Now I need to go listen to those Electric Sky podcasts again....

Conroy, I'm sure that you are right...your kind heart gets me everytime! The shirt is already starting questions of the sort: after the Cleveland show someone was asking me how he got the nickname...<smile>

I have similar reservations as GSC and SS, but also understand the love that people wish to show with the LB tees.

Perhaps a solution might lie in simple variation: going forward, perhaps people might want to make shirts with "Leroy Coolbreeze" on them but whose art/details/color/whatever are different from Stewart's?

The choices that Stewart made when "designing" his shirt were his own; perhaps by customizing the shirts individually to your own tastes/wishes, the sentiment of love and dedication for Ian can be maintained but without getting too close to Stewart's own personal choices? So that the shirts are dedicatory without the fear of simply being seen as copycatting?

(N.B.: I'm NOT suggesting that folks here are interested in the shirts simply because Stewart wore one. I KNOW that such is not the case. I simply mean that variation/customization may help avoid even the suggestion, no matter how erroneous, of such a thing and thus allay any fears of impropriety on our parts or any possible feelings of discomfort on Stewart's part.)

Just a thought. Take it or leave it.

That's why I went for my own shoulder insignias for it instead of going nuts over trying to analyze his; I went for the symbols that had the strongest meaning to me.

And I did personalize mine, making it black and silver and with nothing but the 3 on the sleeve.

To me, it is just a homage to the great guy that Ian was. Only very keen Copeland fans know who Leroy is. Heck, some on THIS site did not know who he was! So it is not a misappropriation in any way of a family heirloom, but showing respect and remembrance.

And I am sure that Ian would definitely approve a show of love for him!

Good old Leroy. He sent me a couple of very inspiration emails when I joined his site. Cool doesn't even begin to describe him. I miss the man, and love the shirt. I should make one up for November.

I heartily recommend that you read Wild Thing. Coolbreeze is a refreshing, "can-do", "what's the problem" attitude towards life. Ian has gone through a very bumpy road in his lifetime, seen it all and done it all, from rags to riches, but he always remained an enthusiastic, positive person.
