Is the Synchronicity concert unwatchable?

Postby blueboy on 22 Jul 2007 00:23

I hate to admit it...but I actually tried to re-edit the entire concert once by editing out all the "audience shots", and replacing them with little video snippets from other parts of the concert to fill the space (as artfully as possible).

I gave up after about 5000 edits....

Now I just look away from the screen every time the wannabe woodstocker chick in overalls comes on... or the guy who gets pushed...or the....etc.

Unfortunately, all those annoying people from both the Le Spectrum show in Montreal as well as Atlanta are permanently etched in my brain.

I just wanna know what's up with the dude who presses his temples with both hands and the proceeds to endlessly do vertical sit-ups...

I know for the Yes 9012 Live DVD release last year they included the option on the disc of watching the concert with or without the visual effects. Now if they can do that, re-release the Sync concert with the no crowd shots option.

I must admit though, at 12:01 into the concert during MIAB they pull back from the redhead in the overalls and the dude back to the left with the bling, pornstar mustache and the Member's Only jacket cracks me up everytime!

I watched the Synchronicity concert for the 1st time in 20-some years tonight. It's quite watchable, after a couple of Flying Dog Amber Ales.

It's a great time capsule, I think. And in fairness to the film makers they didn't know they were capturing on of the last shows for 24 years. They might have had a different approach had they known. Or not. I think the 80's cheesiness really emphasizes how timeless the music is though. It still rocks!

Yeah, I can't tell if he's in agony (sound pressure levels too high) or ecstacy (my favorite band's playing and all I can do is hold my temples and rock back and forth like a total spazz).

I also crack up when Sting's introducing Every Breath, and the shot cuts to the couple in the crowd and the girl is shaking and bouncing enthusiastically because the Police are about to play her favorite song ever, the song that she probably believes is a wonderful love song, when in fact it's about some guy stalking a chick and watching her every move, even when she's going to bake a cake. Andy somehow left that line out of his Police Live remix.

I love it. Got no problems with the crowd. I just explain to friends that it was the 80s and everyone was on coke.

I do want my own personal Asian boy to push over. He can accompany me to any other shows that I go to as my own little Short Round and I will push him down 2-3 times during the show.

Interested applicants should apply at the front desk.

I really struggle with the Synch video - personally I CANNOT STAND the doo-wop babes. Sting lets them sing loads of really key phrases so that half the time it's a bit like a karaoke performance. They ruin it for me.

Has there ever been a decent video of their epic performance at the Hatfield Polytechnic?

Isn't that Rock Goes to College? If so, I thought that was pretty good, though my copy is not the complete show,

I could deal with them better if they'd been given more dignified outfits. "Marching Band players who forgot to wear pants" - who thought of that look?

They play that show on VH1 every now and then. I think it is set to re-air sometime in the next two weeks. I Tivo'ed that and then downloaded it, erasing the commercials, so I have no major complaints with what I have. According to Amazon, the disc is set for release in 2010. They are accepting pre-orders now, though (ha ha).

VH1 also played Ugh! A Music War recently, too. I never saw it before. Great Driven to Tears. The end is an All Star So Lonely.

Preorders for 2010? What a Reunion can do, eh, guys???
I bet Stingo waited 25 years before proposing it, because he knew this would happen!
