Lyric question (could not solve it in MANY years)....

Postby Kalypso on 21 Jul 2007 21:50

Wait, we have NOT established that it's actually flaws in the schemes or floors in the vertigo. I am still not convinced. I have seen so many errors in lyric sites...

I was thinking, this is Robert Downey Jr's favorite song, it MUST have a drug-hangover reference, and Stewart said it's about vertigo, so what have flaws in the schemes to do with vertigo???

Forget about it....You will go mad if you try to follow my train of thoughts.

It's "flaws," kids.

First, because "floors" makes shit for sense.

And second, because Stewart Fucking Copeland's Official Website tells me so: http://www.stewartcopeland.net/lyrics/darkness.html

"Flaws" can refer both to flaws in the schemes being dreamt up as well as flaws in the speaker himself.

Stingo's just speaking Britishese.
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

I think it's flaws... because it's about insecurity isn't it? I think Sting means vertigo in a more metaphorical sense - referring to their status as stars. That's how I've always read it.

^ Listen to Hannah. She is ever wise.

[And of course, it doesn't just have to be seen in an autobiographical/star-status sense. It connotes any situation in which one is in a (literal or metaphorical) spotlight/darkness, as well as the highlights but also difficulties of being removed from that (again literal or metaphorical) spotlight/darkness.]

..and HH's British, most importantly. It is prolly Sting introducing a mute "r" at the end of the word, so that is sounds like "flawrs" instead of "flohs". 8)
