I agree....I've always thought it was Stewart too just like the beginning to On Any Other Day.

I've just listened to the "hi there" about 60 times, thanks to the miracle of MP3 technology. This is a could all be cleared up with one little question to Stewart.

However, Jen's right. Kiddo has one of the most amazing memories I have ever been aware of...in Everyone Stares he looks at a frame and names the city or the hour, day and what they were doing in a sec!

But its not like was watching home movies he hadn't seen in years. He had spent a considerable amount of time putting the movie together prior to doing the commentary. So of course he would be able to quick ID the scenes.

Maybe it's because I am European and could certainly tell London from Berlin or from Paris, but would NEVER be able to say "This is Cleveland!" or "This is Atlanta"! in half a sec...apart from NY, SF, Chicago Seattle and LA, I can barely tell an US city from the other.

He even recognized SACRAMENTO!!!! Dude, I don't know if you have ever been there, but you would not recognize it from Adam even if they put a huge sign with Ahnold's face on it!

Yeah, I've been *through* Sacramento....that's about all I have to say about that! I don't doubt that THE MAN would be able to answer if that was him at the beginning of Big Time, just that he's a tad busy these days.....and God bless him for it!! LONG LIVE THE OCTOBANS!!!

No Doubt that is Stewart on Drums on "The Big Time Instrumental"...also I must add he is playing a kit with a processor of some sort. These are not programmed drums.

Thanks for all your input everyone....these sessions Stewart did with Peter really intrigue me, as I agree with you Mercury Rising in that Mr. Gabriel is a very top tier artist. I only regret that it takes him 7-8 years to put out an album. But then, if he didn't take that long his work wouldn't be the sonic bliss that it is.

I just busted out my copy of So to take a closer listen to the album version of Big Time, and I have to say that given what I'm hearing with slight tonal variations in the snare, and with what the liner notes that the Equalizer noted earlier, that this IS indeed Stewart on the drums here. What I'm hearing sounds like he played the kick, snare, and hats and in addition to that there is some programming going on as well.

Let me know what you think...

I truly think those drums are programmed. Its too generic and SC was way into the sequencing at that time.
The other drummers on the LP were Jerry Marotta and Manu Katché.
All 3 play on Red Rain. That is drummer overkill.

Don't forget he played REAL drums on Roger Daltreys 'Running With The Moon' around that time too!

Focus on the sound of that snare....it's tone varies throughout the song which is indicative of a human hitting a real drum. That coupled with the fact that the liner notes are so specific in crediting Stewart with only hi-hat on Red Rain.....but on Big Time he is credited with drums.

Good argument.
You are probably right...it just sounds so uninspired. It seems like he would've tossed a rototom in somewhere to let us know he is doing his thing.
