Kalypso, I saw Bowie in The Meadowlands, New Jersey. We needed the binoculars we had, considering how high up in the cheap seats we were. I remember the acoustics being very good.

You were very lucky...You know how to listen to music in the US! I have been in such fantastic places like the Masonic in SF and the Madison Square Garden...and was simply speechless!

Belew was the music director of the tour. Bowie pretty much told him, "Do what you want with the songs; I'll just sing." Saw several shows on that tour; amazing.

That would explain a lot. Imagine such a thing happening with The Police, say, one show out of every three.

Perhaps just supervising some new arrangements. Working alongside fellow-sufferer Stewart.

....it's quite obvious how much of a gramma-ma Stingo is. In that new Vancouver behind the scenes vid on www.thepolice.com he mentions how they've been rehearsing for 4 months, but in his lone opinion they still need more time to rehearse. Mr. Mamby-Pamby himself!

Sting sounds a bit like the woman who played my wife in a performance of Neil Simon's "Prisoner of Second Avenue" a bunch of years ago (I was "Mel," the guy who has a nervous breakdown. Lots of fun.).

DM was there, and can confirm this: the slightest deviation from what we'd rehearsed would give Ms. Meisner-Method conniptions. One night, someone failed to place a prop she needed for an Act I scene, and this woman actually ad libbed a complaint about it in performance.

I was more concerned when she flubbed her lines because not all of the soup cans in the cabinet were facing forward.

I don't think Stingo is quite THAT bad. I think he's just (forgive me, Stewart) a bit of an old lady when it comes to routine.

I'm glad that he has moved on from the "meet the band" joke to the "1879" joke at least. STEWART, we really do wish we could get some of your witty and spontaneous banter onstage.
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.
