FAVOURITE STEWART QUOTES

Postby shyvixen on 16 Jul 2007 22:08

I liked this one from the Seattle Times article:

"Ask him how he — at 55 next week — gears up to play drums in stadiums around the world for the rhythmic-centered Police, and he cracks, 'Two thousand push-ups with one hand and then turn over and do the other hand.' "

And in the commentary on the "Everyone Stares" DVD when Andy loses a contact lens - "You probably poked it out with your mascara stick."

I know they're not great quotes but they amuse me.

Shouldn't a real good Stewart quote end with a "Fuck Off" from deep down his heart?

Other fabulous two I found in Hannaha's article:

Both are actually from Stingo, but they are hilarious:

Sting admits, "There was this incredible, almost sexual tension between us - not in the literal sense, but it was charged."

Stewart: "Whenever we had our hands round each other's throats, Andy would hold this reel of two inch tape over our heads and chant 'I am nothing' until we stopped. To this day, it still settles me when I think 'I am nothing.'"

Sting rolls his eyes, "Stewart," he chortles, "you were the loudest fucking 'nothing' in the world!"

Hannaha, are you *really* a cellist! I love the cello! I keep threatening to take it up, even though I don't read music and have only my rhythm to keep me going. One of the (many) reasons I have always loved Echo & the Bunnymen is the cello bits. I also listen to Vivaldi and Brahms cello concerti a lot, particularly when I'm working and need to concentrate, which means no percussion for me  .

Sting: Yes, my dick! It's a another monstrous, hidden thing from Northern Britain.

Stewart Copeland: That comes out of the slime and that no one has ever seen, or believes in!

Stewart Copeland: Stingo, you always considered yourself to be the King of Pain. You had this concept at the time that you were Satan, that you were the evil one. I felt that it was my duty to point out to you that, no you were not Satan, you were not Beelzebub, You were just a common garden-variety asshole.

Sting: Shut up, Stewart. Have a drink, take a valium.

Thank you, Hannaha, I had THE BEST time today reading that article! I am dealing with an incredibly tedious legal document and you made the day of this pain-in-the-ass gal :D

This is gonna sound super corny, but here it is. My favorite quote of Stewart's, of all time, is from Night of the Tarantula from here on the forum...
The next tune starts quietly with voices and wafting sheep/bagpipe. When Gian Carlo leans into a few wailing notes, the crowd gets the hint and the hubbub dies down. While the singers hold the spotlight, I nip off stage to grab a dry tee shirt from a pile next to the monitor desk. Heaven right now is a dry towel and a jug of Gatorade as I watch Ninfa and Enza beguile the crowd. A minute ago the joint was rockin’ but now it’s a still atmosphere. From the monitor desk I can see that the women are completely enveloped in the music, concentrating intensely. Their voices rise into the night air.

It’s a storybook concert. One of those rare times when the artist, the audience, the venue, the moon and probably some Voodoo all come together. The thrill of a great show is a two way current that energizes an audience but positively electrifies the performers. It would be interesting to analyze the brain chemistry at such times.

Leaving the stage after a show like this is kind of bitter sweet. It’s the last show of the tour, the last cheer, the last Pizzica groove, and the last event requiring focus, energy or health. No more hand maintenance will be required. No show moments to fix, no point tweaking the kit, it’s over. Burn the stage and everything on it. I probably won’t see my drums again for months.

As I lope from the stage to the palace dressing rooms my heart is full of joy. I’m not very religious but usually the thought in my head is one of gratitude. Thank you Lord for this gift, this body, this life.
Yeah, I know, being confused is paramount when it comes to reading my posts... 8)

Dive that sounds like a spiritual, out of body moment. I am glad that Stew is not religious - sorry, quite the Agnostic here - but he seems so have a spiritual side.

Two from the June Rolling Stone article -- maybe not my absolute favorite, but pretty damned funny:

Copeland says his 2006 documentary, Everyone Stares: The Police Inside Out - compiled from reels of Super-8 film he shot during the band's first lifetime - has no footage of actual fighting, "because Sting works out. He used to run, like, twenty miles a day then. If you're trying to squeeze the life out of him, it takes two hands, with no free hand to film. So I never got that shot."

and...

"There's nothing more natural for me in the world than standing next to a brighter source of light -- I don't mind.. It just better be pretty fucking shiny."

Here's one that amuses me, after claiming that jazz is the refuge of the talent-less:

"Well half of all this is just because I enjoy the frisson caused by such comments, and the other thing that colors all this is that it's not about the music, it's about the guys. Jazz musicians as a rule are stuck up snobs. And the reason is because they don't get laid! Rock musicians get laid, jazz musicians don't!"

I could really shatter Stew's illusions here...ANY musician gets laid.
