I Really Should Introduce Myself Properly...

Postby shyvixen on 15 Jul 2007 22:59

I've been posting here and there on the forum for a couple of days now but I thought I'd better formerly introduce myself to the group:

I'm shyvixen, also known in some circles as Shelby. I live in Denver, Colorado. I work as a library clerk and go to grad school part time at the University of Denver. I'm 40 years old and single.

From about 1980 to 1984 The Police and especially Stewart Copeland were the center of my universe. In the years after I would check in with other Stewart Copeland fans I knew from time to time to see what he was up to.

At the end of 2006 I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. While I was undergoing chemotherapy, The Police announced their reunion tour. I had not just one, but two of my friends buy me tickets to the two Police shows in Denver in June. I have awesome friends. I thought about the upcoming shows a lot while I was doing chemo and worked hard to keep strong so I would be up to going.

On April 30th I finished my chemo, on May 30th I had a CT scan and was declared cancer-free and on June 10th I GOT TO SEE THE POLICE PLAY LIVE AND IT WAS AMAZING! I don't think life can get much better than that. I felt like I was seeing some dear friends that I hadn't seen in far too long. If there's one thing I've learned in my experince with cancer it's how important friends are, and you shouldn't lose touch with them. So here I am. The people here are great and I'm completely addicted to this place already. So, I hope you'll let me stay awhile.

I'm glad your story has a happy ending and that you are sharing it with us! I think the magnitude of this reunion tour cannot be emphasized enough. I think this is truly a miraculous tour on multiple levels! And even though I'm generally a skeptic, I'd like to think that two other people close to the Police, namely Ian Copeland and Kim Turner, who both succumbed to cancer were somehow responsible for planting the seeds in Sting's head that it was time for this reunion to happen and stories like yours are examples of the impact this is having in both a macro cosmic and microcosmic level.

Welcome Shyvixen......

Thank you so much for sharing your story with us.... You are amongst friends here.

Whatever time of the day or night someone is here on the net and we are such a mad crazy bunch you cannot help but smile!!!

I think because the tour has taken so long we have had 20 odd years to change and mature. So much has happened to us in that time, some of us went from being young kids to having kids of the same age now and we all have a great story to tell!

Thanks for telling us yours and stick around for a while...

This is a great place to be!!!

Kim

Wow !

Glad to hear you fought back and are doing great !

It's amazing how many people go through it, Family and friends kinda join together in the fight. It's tough...but you can win, just like you.

I am also using The Police concert as a "milestone" or "benchmark" whatever you want to call it.

A positive landmark where it is time to let loose and have some fun (put the year behind you) and hear the bestest band in the whole wide world !

Have a great time !

Cheers.
