Other great grunge drummer on rotation Alice in Chains "Would". Sean Kinney was my favorite Alice member and I think he's the most. underrated.drummer. ever

Well, since you're from Portland, you will understand... I was HUGELY into grunge in the 90s, it was just the way I felt in those times, and many of these guys really played like MOFOS, not like the hair bands and all that crap.
Cornell to me was, with Layne Staley R.I.P. and Lanegan, one of the best singers ever existed, those who spoke to me. I would melt over Burden in My Hand or Down in a Hole. Euphoria Morning is a huge album if you like the style, you can download only the songs you like.
The 90s were strangely beautiful and sad...Sting made The Soul Cages, his album that I prefer and nobody likes it but him and me, and for the first time I felt like sincerity there. THe 90s were times of reflecting on what all the power, the lights and the glory really meant (R.I.P. Kurt).
I would have never thought that it would go away and we would be subjected to 15 years of fucking rap or nu metal and shit. I try to shut the blah blah up with my heroes in my pockets and in my soul.

Kinda sucks that 'grunge' is the best word they, whoever they is, could come up with to describe it. You're right about Sean Kinney BTW, he is one of the most creative drummers that Seattle produced. And Soundgarden was the bomb yo....I only got into Pearl Jam again when Matt Cameron joined up with them, and they have put out the best albums in their discography with that guy. For rock music, he is right behind Stewart in my book.

Alright, now you're downright scaring me Kalypso. The Soul Cages, though a bit too short (I want more dammit), is easily his best album. I still wonder exactly what 'Q sound' is though....it sure sounds fantastic! Manu Katche is another of my favs.....as well as Vinnie....I felt real lucky when he joined Stingo on the tour for this album. I used to play the shit out of a video recording I made of Sting's 40th birthday bash at the Hollywood Bowl. Vinnie just tore it up that night BIG TIME.

After your Soul Cages admission, I'm beginning to think you might be an FBI agent or something. I must confess, though, that I went through a huge metal phase in the late 80's, and thanks to Stewart mentioning the virtuosity of some of the newer metal drummers, I've recently picked up some of those albums, as well as some of the old metal groups I used to dig. I actually really like Lamb of God....Chris Adler is outright insane on the drums. I also really like System of a Down's music, though it's unfortunate that the singer is so grating that I can only take them in doses of 3-4 songs at a time. Sadly the same is true with me and Led Zeppelin....fabulous drummer.....good god how I hate Robert Plant.

FBI agent...That reminds me of a CIA's son of an agent no, no...And the Robert Plant of today is very good, his last album is fantastic, so we do not agree on absolutely anything
I love VINNIE. I am so proud of his Italian origins. I have seen him live and he is a monster drummer. I thought the stuff he played with Stingo was cramping his style a bit. Through him I got into John DeJohnette, Terry Bozzio and other monsters. They don't have the heart that Stu has, but technically they are certainly on a par with him.
The Soul Cages is an album that I "feel", it moves me, it leaves me with what music should offer: emotions, compassion, a punch in the stomach. I think that was Gordon Sumner writing, not Stingo. And the musicianship on that record was flawless. I may be deluding myself, but I still damn like the record. I had wondered if it had worked with Stewart, but at the time I don't think he had been in such a dark space. Today, maybe, he could do something like that. Losing a loved one does it.
