The fact that he was going 100 mph in a Prius is a story in and of itself.

Al Gore invented benefit concerts.

Thank you DirtyMartini for all that information. I was planing on recording the CTV broadcast but I don't think I can either record or watch 29-hours TV. Well, I will start watching at 6 pm tonight. BUT if anybody has any clue at what time the Police might air that would be :D :D :D :D

(I tried getting hold of some Gore people on this, but his staff farmed out the actual organizing of these shows to others, not surprisingly. I don't think any people outside his immediate personal staff got hookup for tickets or anything.)

Can't wait for the other Live Earth shows. Hopefully my Ethernet connection won't crap out, since I'm not sure Comcast carries CTV in my area.
On Google - site:stewartcopeland.net "your keyword here" - thanks DM!!

They're pretty much tight-lipped on the performance schedule. Which sucks, but what can you do. I know that they just added another performer only a day or two ago.

I can't find the info right now, but I also saw that there will now be a small DC concert -- it's in the Native American Museum? My connection is sucking right now so I can't go searching, but I know that somebody is going to be performing in DC tomorrow for Live Earth.
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

yes, yes.... but - if the police are being broadcast on national TV for this event, why isn't it blazing all over the police website??.... or stingus? ..... or sting.com? or stewartcopeland.net at the front page (news) ? i mean, do we actually have it confirmed there will be a broadcast of the boys? and if we do, what's up with it not being mentioned at their website?

Well, i see your point, but i presumed that as there are folks in this thread getting excited about recording the mtv broadcast and making sure they are gonna be around to see it, that something was known and concrete.

Evidently noone actually knows - i've hunted around and can't find anything to indicate that this is gonna be any different to that sad situation with Bonnaroo.

If the Police were going to have their set broadcast, it *would* be mentioned at their website. At the least, Stingus would have the scoop. Look at how early they broke the news of the last two Police TV rebroadcasts....

I hope I'm wrong, but folks, remember Bonnarroo?

Folks, this sucker is going to be on XM * AND * Sirius on several channels. I'm listening to Sydney live on Sirius right now. Al Gore opened it up with a speech. Must have been a satellite link or taped. I heard he will open up the DC concert in the morning and then fly to NJ to close that gig. I will be at a party all day tomorrow and am bringing my Sirius boom box with me and am planning to drink rum and cokes and be antisocial, lol. I'm going to TIVO NBC from 8-11 tomorrow in case I don't make it home in time. I'm sure it will just be highlights but it will be better than nothing. I hope it's better than the Olympic coverage. Sheesh that sucked.

Yeah, I hear ya, but it's a different situation this time 'round. I honestly couldn't believe The Police would be streamed from Roo, so I was in no way surprised when it wasn't. This is my thinking:

Live Earth says that coverage on its website will be "full" (although I'm not sure if that's referring to the live stream or to the various TV networks signed on.) Plus, the band would have to be complete morons to block broadcast during a charity event. They signed on for a particular cause; they're not getting paid; one would expect that similar generosities would play regarding the broadcast.

However, from a business standpoint, the short Live Earth set will be great publicity. Ripping through five songs for the whole world is an instant commercial, giving the audience a taste and leaving them wanting more.

Whereas broadcasting the whole concert at Roo would have made tons of people wonder why they had spent money on tix when they could have seen the show for free -- and make tons of people wonder why they would bother buying tix since they had just seen the show for free. I'm not saying it doesn't suck in a Roo-spirit/music-for-the-world kind of way. But it makes total sense in a tour-business/maximizing-sales kind of way.

I could be wrong about Live Earth, of course, since I've got the same info as everyone else. But screwing with a charity event would defeat part of the purpose. Seems pretty unlikely. We'll find out for sure tomorrow.

Kim, I'm almost positive I saw that the NBC coverage will be highlights -- but I forget where I read that, so I'm afraid I can't verify.
