Live Earth on every channel!! What to tape?!?!

Postby Divemistress of the Dark on 06 Jul 2007 17:17

Oh heavens. I just hopped on TiVo to see what the options are for tomorrow, and there's:

* a 3-hour Hi-Def option
* a 2-hour rerun at 3 AM, which may have more Police in it
* the 8-hour Bravo telecast

Hey!! Something just occurred to me...I have two TiVos! Mwahahahaha!

I really think I'm going for the 8-hour Bravo, not the least reason is that Paul Kelly is headlining the Australian show. Sweet Jesus, what I wouldn't give for a teleporter.

(I have the feeling I'm going to be way sorry I didn't get my ass in gear and head to NYC for this.)

Honestly? I really would have gone, but I'm not wild about most of the other artists on the bill for the U.S. show, and we know our boys won't have time to play a complete set.

It really came down to a choice between this gig or the Louisville one, and going to see a huge show in New York City is a more complicated logistically and a lot more expensive for me personally. Also, much as I'm 100% behind Al Gore's goals on this, I do hear a lot about them in my day to day life, since I live down the street from him, more or less...

(That is a serious bummer about his son, by the way. The kid almost got killed in a car wreck in Baltimore back in the 80s...it's awful to see him trying to throw his life away like this. Here's hoping he gets help.)

Ya, that's a majorly sad irony of life...someone can mobilize worldwide support for a cause but can only do so much when it comes to those around you, & I've been pretty far down that road...

Precisely one of the reasons I'm thinking my need to work will win out. I mostly would want to see The Police and the Pumpkins, plus Roger Waters. Melissa Etheridge is pleasant, and as a citizen of NJ, I'm required to see Bon Jovi once in my lifetime. (They'll even let me be buried here if I see Springsteen as well.) Plus Gore will be speaking and it will a free-for-all of East Coast celebs. (I'd bet serious money that Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins appear.)

Sitting on the fence, so I figure I'll see how I feel tomorrow. It will probably be a great day of entertainment, but sometimes duty calls.

How long would it take you to get there, DM? Could you just go for a while and leave early? Bring a laptop?

Yeah, if I go, it probably won't be for the whole day. I'd probably show up late. But you figure it'll be about 1-1.5 hours in drive or commuting time.

Theoretically it's only 45 minutes away, but you know that never applies to a concert.

If I drive, it's 45 minutes, but you have to add concert/parking lot traffic -- then add an easy hour to that to leave again.

If I take the train (which is more likely), it's about 45-60 minutes, plus a shuttle bus. Then add an easy hour to that to leave again.

It's not terrible, of course -- but it's enough to make you think twice. We'll be doing it for the 8/5 Police show without complaint. Just not sure if it's worthwhile for tomorrow.
