Recordings

Postby Divemistress of the Dark on 06 Jul 2007 15:26

OK, hell, I know the subject is semi-verboten, but I gotta confess: I'm listening to the Dallas 6/26 show right now and it is AMAZING.

Can I just sell my house, give up all my responsibilities, and go on the road following The Police? Geez, I'm so geeked up for Louisville on the 14th I sometimes think I'd like to.

A couple notes: Stewart is doing a lot of yelling you can hear on the recording and yet you can't quite pick out during the live set. Wow.

(And I was AT THIS SHOW. Fantastico. I'm used to listening to tapes made years before and wishing to hell I hadn't been cursed to spend my formative years in Bumfart, Kansas...)

That was the best show I've seen thus far, with Cleveland being the eight <grin> In part because I had a great seat on the floor from Dive (thanks!), in part because it was a miracle I got there in time for Fiction Plane given the 6+ hours of bus delays, in part because the crowd was just absolutely insane, in part because they rocked the hardest!

You'd think I'd be ready to take a break but all I can think of is hopping on GH and hitting FL next, heh. Hubby is pretty freaking important so I stay put, but the thought crosses my mind now and then <grin>

Hell yeah. You could become like one of those deadheads that followed the Grateful Dead around or like Homer Simpson did when the ribwich at Krusty Burger left Springfield for other locations. :D

Okay as I am the one who always goes crazy when he is watching Australians analyzing Bootlegs I would like to state why I do so.
I just think that the artists have the right to not being too happy about those recordings. And that is not because of money lost ... couldn't care less.
To me it seems like you take a Picasso painting make a black'n'white photocopy of it and everybody goes: "Wow that guy has no clue about colors ... "
That just stinks. Having a recording from a radio show for example (guess things like that don't happen anymore) is okay for me - good technology! Someone standing in the pit with an ipod and a little mic recording it and supplying it just shows no respect to the art of the guys on stage. Most everybody who went to gigs so far told us not to mistake the "mood and sound" you can watch/hear in the Youtube cellphonecam videos or on the bootlegs with the real quality of the show - but you still do ...!
I got the Dodges Show and think the songs are good, but still sometimes I go - man that is lame ...

I think it is fine to listen to it, that is everybodies own business - going online and bitching about how Sting didn't hit this or that note just pisses me off ... but hey that is what I am here for ... So just fuck off ...!

Oh but DeDoDoDo is really cool from the Dodgers Show ... :D

I hear ya phaty, but mostly I just want these things for my own use, my own memory so I can relive it. I used to boot shows all the time with a very crappy little cassette recorder. I just found that thing in a drawer the other day and was tempted to bring it. I didn't and I was glad because they were searching bags at the show and it was too big to fit into my pants pockets or something.

If anyone gets a boot of St. Paul, I would most appreciative! Hint hint!

Yeah, I agree. The upside is that for some folks, it's just a GREAT memento of the show they saw. Awesome.

And then you have other people who are doing these massive critical analyses based on these semi-crappy recordings, and as a result slagging the band with no real frame of reference. Give me a fucking break. "But it sounded bad on YouTube! Booo hoooo!"

I am glad these recordings are around. I enjoy them greatly, but I know that the audible experience at the live show is 100x better than anything recording I've heard so far. I'm REALLY glad I got to see/hear the very first US performance so I had a real basis of comparison BEFORE hearing these bootlegs. Nothing, so far, has come close.

?? You really think someone would make an analysis of the live set based on a bootleg and expect to be taken seriously?

Cause it ain't no contest, I'm here to tell you that.

At the Munich Show I will try to spot a few of them and burp in the mics.
I think I go the record player and smash "DeDoDoDortmund" and "We'd like to thank the Beatles for lending us their stadium." to the wall ...
